Will Google tighten up quality control on the Pixel 2 XL?

I appreciate all the activity on the thread. I have a black 128 gb 2 XL that I have been using since the 20th. the reason for my post was to see if people thought down the line Google would increase QC that would further reduce the blue shift. It is not terrible right now, but if I thought they would minimize it more, I would send mine back and wait.

Having said that, all other aspects of the phone are great.

Google is unlikely to change anything. Retooling the hardware is a complicated and risky process. Unless return rates surge or sales slump as a result, I doubt anything will change. The tolerance for color shift varies between customers. Google only has to reach the customers who don't notice or don't care to be commercially successful.

Wow. Really sad. Also notice I said no big deal since I don't use it tilted. Also that was day 1. After 10 days I don't even notice it if I do view at an angle. Honestly, I don't give a crap if you decide to buy one. My point behind all this was that it's a great device and I want to see a 3 next year. If it gets too heavily bashed on sales will be affected for no good reason and we won't. I've already seen it happen with the pixel c. One of the best tablets ever made. Nobody bought it because initial reviews were harsh as hell for no good reason.
The pixel C had an extremely high price tag for an Android tablet. If it hadn't been for work subsidizing mine because I actively use it for work I probably wouldn't have one myself. That and with it running pure Android, for the first half of its life cycle it didn't have multi app support until nougat introduced it. Add on top of that Android applications are very few and far between optimized for tablets and there are all your bad reviews. I love everything Google but the concerns over the pixel C were absolutely legitimate. But you are right about one thing, it is a fantastic Android tablet that will probably very easily last another 2 or so years.

The bad reviews on the pixel c tablet aren't why we're not seeing another tablet, we aren't seeing one because the pixel book is taking its place. Android apps have failed to live up to tablet standards so Google is doing what they now believe is best by basically running Android apps on a convertible Chromebook. Still a super expensive piece of technology, and that sucks, but in the long run it's going to be better than a new Android tablet.

But back to the original topic. I'm very happy for you that you don't have any issues with the 2XL. I'm getting mine tomorrow and I'm super stoked about it even with all of the negativity the screen is getting and that I have personally seen in Verizon stores. But let's not downplay the fact that the screen is indeed inferior to some of the other AMOLED screens on the market and regardless of whether or not you believe the screen is the best thing ever other people are not going to see it the same way.

Do you think Google is going to subtle improving quality control on the Pixel 2's, specifically the 2 XL?

I have a 2 XL that I received on the 20th. Overall the phone is great, but I do have the off axis color shift. I see some that barely show a color shift and others that show a more pronounced shift. I'm debating sending the unit back and waiting a couple of months before checking it out again.

Do you think phones in a couple of months will have less off axis color shift?

Thanks,

Rick

Looks like they might be doing something as my order was just changed from a shipping status of today, back to ordered. Ugh. Google!

Called it a year ago:

I blame lying liar Rick Osterloh, who has left a trail of customers holding his broken promises from everywhere he's been. With Osterloh in charge I hope Pixel crashes and burns. Buyer beware.

Has Osterloh been fired yet?

Yeah, I called them today. They said that the fluctuating status was normal. I give it a week, if no change, cxl the order and might skip this version. I am sort of fickle, and when I want to buy something, I don't like hassle or hurdles. Last time was the 6P, ugh. Last year the Pixel launch was much better for me, but I bought the second they went live.

I may just cancel the order if it is delayed and then see what I feel in March.

to respond to the original question.

That would be interesting if they do. I think the problems are just amplified. It reminds me of the V20 and G6 phones that had busted camera lenses. Sure it happened, but when it was coming up, people were acting like it was the end of the world and that the quality control was terrible. When you're pumping out and manufacturing a ton of quantity, some might not be up to quality standards. Even Samsung is guilty of this. Seems like they've had the most bad press with quality control over their last few releases. Red tint, battery exploding.. updates to restrict charges.. recalls.. rereleasing.. you know?

With that said, I own two Pixel 2XLs and my boss just got one on Friday. That, with the display models I saw at local Verizon stores show no huge problems. I walked to the Note 8 and saw a blue tint as well. Not as "drastic" but I think being neutral is very hard now-a-days. But it's the same as it was when we were in grade school. People will get clique together and rep their side no matter what.

I know mine is less than a few display models I have seen but like others said after a while you don't notice it anymore. I am just gonna love the phone for what it is instead of looking negatives more important things in life then finding a negative. today is a good day and it can only be as good as you make it.

Jeremiah,

Do the 3 you've seen all roughly look the same when viewing off axis?
I haven't looked at my bosses too in depth but I'll report back when I do. All I know is he hasn't complained at all and he's complained about other phones.. So we might be fine.

But mine and my wife's aren't too different. I haven't noticed anything.
