Will Huawei be ok?

So I was quite confident about Huawei as I'm fairly certain my P40 pro is ok, but the latest new about the US sanctions has me a little worried, as my family members use google Huawei devices. How will all this affect them? As it seems from the news that they will just stop working??

No, they won't stop working. Huawei sells millions around the world. If the license isn't extended or renewed, Google updates will cease. I think that's all that will cease. I have a Huawei P30 Pro and I'm not worried but I'm not by nature hysterical. I would love the Huawei P40 pro camera but without GMS, I'll pass. Maybe Xiaomi Mi 10 ultra is in the cards if it gets out of China. I do like the way my Huawei P30 pro, my Acer Chromebook, and my Google Home mini all work together. If I'm cooking I can tell Google Home to add this or that to my shopping list and it's automatically on my phone for when I go shopping. Or, if I make an appointment on my Chromebook, that's on my phone, too, and if I take pictures when I'm walking my dog they're on my Chromebook when I get home. As someone who grew up with a radio with tubes that glowed in the dark and a rotary-dial phone, this is all magic. Especially, photos at night or inside buildings.

Haha it is pretty magical what technology is able to do, right?!
I'm not that tied in, I was an iphone user and never invested in any eco system really so the lack of google on my p40 pro is alright and tbh the camera is the thing I care about.
Thanks for your reply though it is reassuring, especially because there's so many mixed messages in the articles I'm reading.

I don't think anybody knows, you'll have to see how it plays out.

I've read lots of different forums etc and it seems there's a lot of false news out there and phones cant stop working according to lots of people, so for now I count myself reassured

I really doubt much will change, they've beeb operating under 3 months renewal for a year now, seems like they were already ready to get out anyway. Worst case scenario, it will just be Huawei updating them instead of Google and you know that's fine, since most of their devices never even had Google on them. They know their stuff, it's just a transition period.

Wow, you're living in the "the future" man. I'm glad you can do that, I don't trust tech enough to let it do its thing yet. I've actually never had a Chrombook, does it work for you as full-on daily driver? You don't feel the need for a Windows laptop?

I have a Windows desktop that I don't turn on once a month. I have to clean it up and give it to someone. People point out that for most things like sending emails, receiving emails, surfing the web, checking locations on Google maps, doing research, and sending and receiving text messages on my phone I have to be connected to the internet. But, wait, on my Windows 10 I have to be on-line to do that with my Windows computer, too. The only thing I do on the Windows computer without being on-line is editing photos. Using Google Photos for light editing or Snapseed for more requires being on-line. I can add items to Keep, enter new information in Contacts, and write documents on the Chromebook without being on-line. Of course, none of that updates on my phone or desktop or watch until I go on-line. One caveat, I'm 79-years-old, do zero "social networking" and the only game I have is a solitaire game to keep my fingers busy while I think about what I'm writing.

Here's a link for a video about a chromebook as a daily driver.

Yea thats what I'm hoping for, from my understanding China doesn't even use Google stuff so cant be that hard to apply here right

Wow that's awesome, I might actually think about getting one, the battery on them Chromebooks is supposed to be awesome! Also, why is being 79 a caveat? I, at 30, can only hope to be as active as you are at 79, age is only mental haha. Thanks for the link I'll check it out ASAP.

Yeah, you're right Google is banned in China. I have a friend who went there for a summer job and she said they were joking with their international friends about having to "Bing" stuff.
:D

I heard the same, China dont use Google and have something like 85% Android marketshare, its jjst a matter of Huawei westernising everything they use there as it just wasnt a focus for them uo until last year

Hi there – hoping I can help! Your device will continue to operate over Google services and so all Google apps will continue to update themselves accordingly. Your device will receive new updates and security patches for the foreseeable future. There’s more info on this here: https://consumer.huawei.com/en/support/bulletin/. Hope this helps!
