Yes it will work! I bought 4 in Florida at BestBuy and have 2 working here in my home in Toronto (the other 2 are gifts for friends). Now the only issue is the installer app is not available in the Play Store, it is geographically locked out, but the windows ChromeCast setup utility is available off the google site. So you'll need a wifi capable computer to create the adhoc connection to configure your ChromeCast.

My cousin is bringing me one from California next month and I was worried about this too. I noticed the Chromecast setup utility wasn't available to install on my device but luckily I can do it from the webpage. Good to know this is working in Canada.

Just so I'm clear, do you download the apk straight to your phone or tablet? I'm heading down to Seattle and planning to pickup Chromecast.

That's a good question, given that Google hasn't released the app for Canada in the play store, I'd be very surprised if they released it to Canadians in the Apple app store. I think you'd have to login to the app store with an american enabled account to install the updated app. I'd like to know if this is available since I would sometimes cast from my wife's iPad, although most likely I'll just use my Nexus devices, but it would be another option if I had the iPad app as well.

Does it see your wifi network? What's the error message you're getting?

It sees the network but it can't connect. I've looked through the FAQ and Troubleshooting sections but I'm not sure about some of the router settings that it's asking me to verify. Do you think adding the Chromecast to my router's MAC whitelist would help? I'll have to try the process again to record the exact error message.

Are you using the Chromecast setup app from the playstore? I know you can't get it in Canada, however the APK is out there so you can sideload it. Here's a video where a guy uses the app to connect his Chromecast to the network:

I just got mine today and found the same thing using my desktop. But what I did was load the apk file onto my tablet (n7) and ran the application. Connected and setup in minutes. Not sure why the desktop would not connect but try what I mentioned. User name beck79 has posted the file on this thread , 2nd or 3rd post from the top.

1. Yes, Netflix works in Canada. Here's a thread from XDA with multiple users in Canada confirming they can watch Netflix. Chromecast in Canada! - xda-developers
If you only want Netflix Canada you don't have to do anything, if you want U.S. content Netflix you'll have to play around with DNS servers on your router to fool Netflix into thinking your IP is based in the U.S.

2. Yes, "Super HD" (which is just 1080p playback) works with the Chromecast as long as your internet connection is fast enough to support it.

Hi, I just got a chromecast from the US and can't seem to get it going, you mention a Windows chromecast utility! Do you have a link for this as I can't seem yo find it. I can see the chromecast on the TV and it says " set me up" but I can't access it! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Look for directions in the Box (flap).
To setup, in the chrome browser type:
google.com/chromecast/setup
Run through the setup, I think you have options to configure WiFi etc.
During the setup the laptop connects directly to the Chromecast. Then it connects to the configured WiFi.

Got my Chromecast here in Richmond Hill, set it up with no issues and streams flawlessly. Also set it up for U.S. access to Netflix by using Unblock-us service. Need to do some magic with the router and IPTables to handle requests from Chromecast (redirect 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 Google DNS servers to Unblock-us). All setup and working with a Netgear router running DD-WRT.
