Will Jelly Bean be released on the Tab?

Does anyone know if Jellybean will be sent to the tabs? I have jelly bean on my phone and would love to have it pushed out to my tablet as well.

On the original tabs, probably not. They do not have the ability to run jelly bean in my opinion. I sold mine when the ICS update came out and bought a 10.1 inch Note to replace it.

Something must have been up with the original notes as they brought out the tab 2 so quickly after the release if the original.

The tab 2 is or may be getting it, I can't remember what samsung said about it, or if they will stick to their plan on upgrades they mentioned last year.

Galaxy S4 or Note 3 for my next. Decisions, decisions.

What!?!?!?

Not trolling your reply or calling your opinion wrong but... I do love comments like the GT10.1 not having the "ability" to run Jellybean. What really needs to be said is that it may not have the ability to run a crappie TW based stock OTA from Samsung. TW is so ram hungry and a huge drain on system resources it'll make any Android version run like crap.

I've been running Jellybean on my GT10.1 since MapleSyrup's(XDA) first 4.1.1 rom with almost no issues at all. As a matter of fact I've had less issues running a JB based rom than I ever did running any ICS one.

TouchWiz is the issue not Android. Strait vanilla JB runs like a dream on this device so much so that so far I really haven't had that itch to upgrade to a newer one yet.

Just saying.... Of course.

If your asking if an official Jellybean OTA from Samsung... I'm 99% sure it was on a list from Samsung as it was, then it was remove. I just can't find the link to the post but... I don't really think Samsung will be putting to much of its resources into updating a 2 year old device.

But all hope is not lost... This device is so easy to root, install a custom recovery and flash a rom that it's like child's play.

Here is a great post on rooting your GT10.1, it even has a great video walk through to help make it even easier.

I've been running this rom for a few months now and it's amazing. It's 4.1.2 but is loaded with a ton of CM and PA extras. Flash this rom and you'll swear you just bought a new tablet.

This is the rom I'm thinking of flashing and playing around with tonight. It's 4.2.2 and again loaded with CM goodness.

I don't believe that statement about touchwiz to be true, either. Out of all of my Samsung Android devices that have had OS updates, I have not had any lag issues, but have had problems with the wireless radios.

I am not sure why you seem to have issues with touchwiz, but I have seen more people on these forums complaining about the issues with vanilla Android rather than touchwiz. Most complaints I see about Samsung's devices are hardware related somehow. Things like the amoled screens and lack of more memory.

My original tab I had came with vanilla honeycomb. Samsung added touchwiz with a later software update. I had some hardware issues with the tablet from day one, and so did others apparently, as the tab 2 was released with the exact hardware specs of the original (cpu, ram, storage etc.), probably to fix some underlying issues that couldn't be repaired with software patches.

My thoughts on the original tab possibly not being able to "support" jelly bean are based solely on whatever Samsung changed in the tab between versions 1 and 2.

I have read that there are nexus devices that were brought to their knees by jelly bean, so I have to believe that there may be some beefier hardware requirements needed to run jelly bean out of the box efficiently.

There is no doubt that if the tab was rooted and rommed, it could run jelly bean, I don't doubt that, but how much tweaking would be needed to allow multi window as well as other features to run concurrently on a device with only 1GB of system ram. Features that are considered a code part of jelly bean.

Will that rooting method work on my Verizon 4G tab running ICS?
