Just curious what you all think. I think there is an outside chance that MS might do it to further establish themselves as the market default on desktops/laptops and mobile.
With the prospect of Windows & tablets still floating around, why would they want to cut into their own potential market?
Besides, Office has gotten HUGE (in terms of the size of the programs and libraries). Programs like Documents To Go are quite small in comparison, and thus are both more affordable, and more logical choices for use on smart phones and tablets. And, while certainly lacking in overall functionality, they are still quite useful for basic uses - composition and data entry, for example (I make extensive use of these myself).
I also suspect that most tablet users (of which ever OS) are still going to have a regular computer on which they can run Office (or Open Office) to better format the document that they might create using their tablets.
If there is ever to be more traditional office suite functionality extended to tablets, I'd imagine it will more likely come not from a large integrated suite, but from a collection of specifically targeted programs which can read/write the common file format. I'd like a app for the creating of charts for spreadsheet data. But, as I typically use a PC to do this, I would be willing to spend only a limited amount to also be able to do the same work on my Xoom.
Where Microsoft could potentially make inroads would be to make their OfficeLive/SkyDrive cloud available to the available Android Tablet apps, making the use of their Office suite on a PC or Mac a more logical choice for the "finishing" of documents created on ones Tablet.
