Will not connect to android file transfer on Mac

My new Galaxy S3 won't connect to the android file transfer app on my iMac. The phone recognizes that its pluged in and i've tried it with it in the media and the camera mode and neither help. Please help!

Depending on what OS version of Mac that you are using, there are known issues between the GSIII, Kies, and Mt Lion. Hopefully will be resolved soon.

I'm on Mountain Lion, finally got Kies working but I haven't experimented with it yet so not sure what it is capable of. I am disappointed that the phone can not just be recognized as a drive though. I wonder why that is.
