Will rooting the HTC One stop updates?

The last HTC phone I had was the Evo 3D. I had decided to root it, and the guide I found called for getting this string from HTC's website, and using adb to root (I can't remember the exact instructions). Unfortunately, I was not able to update my phone when ICS became available for it. I looked up how to unroot, and tried many of the guides I found, but none worked. I also tried asking about it on forums, but I didn't learn anything I didn't already know.

Now I'm interested in rooting an HTC One. Before I do, I want to be absolutely sure that whichever rooting method I go with is completely reversible. I found a few guides for rooting an HTC One, but none that I've seen detail how to unroot, or whether unrooting is fully possible. Does anyone know such a way? I don't want to load custom ROMs, I'd like to keep the stock ROM, but gain root access.

Thanks for your help.

Yes rooting will disable updates due to the custom recovery, OTA updates need the stock recovery to stick. And yes you can return to stock to take updates. Here is thread and i have used this many times already.it even works on the OTA. If you run into a problem hit me up. I am always here ,XDA or Scottsroms

The problem with this ruu thing is that it seems to only work on Windows. Not a huge problem, but it would be nice if this was also available for OS X.

Having the same issue need a fix also but I'm running the Developers model but it's GSM. I'm about to pull my hair out.

Sorry to ambush the thread but I too have the same issue and I'm trying to unroot. I'm using an unlocked SIM free international version from phones4u. The software is v 1.28.401.7 and its on the o2 network. Any pointers for the correct ruu would be much appreciated.

Installing any costume recovery will most probably turn off ota updates, but being rooted, allows us to have updates way faster than people who have to wait for it ota's.
