Will S7 Edge on Verizon get updates at same time as regular S7?

Does anyone know if Verizon will give the s7 edge updates at the same time as the regular s7? I guess we can guess based on how the s6/s6e did. Does anyone know about the updates timing for those two phones from last year?

Verizon S7 Edge updates will be instantaneous, even faster than Google Nexus phones or even Iphones. I also have a slightly used bridge to sell to you. Call me.

Not a snowflakes chance in hell!

It takes around 2 months after the release by Samsung of a stock firmware update, for both AT&T and Verizon to add all their modifications and bloatware. Consequently, actual firmware updates, not security patches, from these 2 carriers are few and far between and well behind those for the Samsung global model. By the time AT&T or Verizon issue a firmware update, it is already obsolete.

I'm still waiting for 5.1.1 to come out for the s5! has verizon been better about updates for the s6?

Android 5.1.1!!!

Do behave... I have the Galaxy S5 Global model which has already received the stock Samsung Marshmallow update, Android 6.0.1. :D

See, http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s5/644708-no-update-yet.html#post5006621

Verizon's last actual firmware update for the S5 was back in April 2015 + they have released 3 security patches, with no change to the firmware build, since then.

Yes Verizon cares very much about customers, they never screw up phones or software and always the first to roll off software updates. Verizon has the best software engineers compared to google, Apple or Samsung or anyone so hell yeah they know what they are doing.

Considering Samsung is pretty lax with updates, using the S7 as a standard for reference is relative and near futile ;) Really.

How wrong can you be about Samsung's updates!!!

I cannot honestly believe that anyone would think that the rest of the world would put up with the rubbish, out-of-date, "clonewares", that AT&T and Verizon customers receive.

Also, #1.6 of 42 Galaxy S5 models - Dummies Guide... it starts with the sentence...

"Think that everyone's Samsung Galaxy S5 is the same as yours...
Think again!

I have two Samsung tablets (no carrier) and a Note 4 that Verizon tech states is Samsung's delay for updates that refute that. The tablets are 100% Samsung supported (Tab S 2014 models) that have been SLOW and INFREQUENT for updates. Nope, Samsung is the root cause.

Also had to get a branded version (Swisscom, in my case) because my provider doesn't support unbranded ones for WiFi calling and VoLTE. Updates come more frequent on branded ones here - Samsung doesn't seem to care about the Swiss market and tends to never update unbranded phones here at all.

Latest unbranded release from Samsung for the TAB S, SM-T800, is OL1 firmware, build date 07 Dec: 2015 on changelist #6522999. Latest build for the Note 4 from Verizon, SM-910V, is PA1 firmware, build date 20 Jan: 2016, changelist #101969629 I am guessing that these are the same Verizon techs who have been informing customers that it is Samsung and not Verizon that locks the S4, S5 and S6 bootloaders in an attempt to prevent rooting.

You do not mention which model you have. Switzerland has unbranded phones on Product code AUT as well as Swisscom branded ones on Product code SWC.

Galaxy S5 on unbranded AUT has had 6 Lollipop releases to-date
Galaxy S5 on Swisscom SWC has had 4 Lollipop updates to-date

Galaxy S6 on unbranded AUT has had 6 Lollipop releases to-date (Marshmallow is imminent)
Galaxy S6 on Swisscom SWC has had 7 Lollipop & 1 Marshmallow release to date

Define "regular" S7... Haven't seen word of an unblocked straight Android version being offered. The carrier-modded updates will *always* lag behind the vanilla unlocked units, because those (in theory) could use the first release for Nexus devices.

Or you mean S7 vs S7 edge? In that case I would think they'd be simultaneous, as Verizon won't be doing much to the edge screen functionality.

Verizon used to pretty much be last or even never on updates, but it's more variable now. I've even seen them be first on some particular phone once. That blew me away.

Thanks, do you have a source for this? My (AUT) S6 never got any updates, same goes for my wife's. What causes updates not to be deployed to some handsets?

There are a number of reasons that you may not have received updates as outlined in #1.10 and #1.11 of 42 Galaxy S5 models - Dummies Guide, (also applies to S6). You can also use #1.8 of the guide to check your CSC and Product codes to ensure you do both have the AUT Product code for unbranded Switzerland.

I think the S6 and S6E get updates together. My wife has a S6E and from what I remember she gets updates the same time as my brother who has a Verizon S6

1.1 tells me nothing I didn't already know. Yes, there are several versions of it, and yes we both have the AUT version. No updates - and we're not alone. On Swiss forums it becomes clear very quickly that unbranded phones in Switzerland just don't get updates from Samsung. The market is too small for their taste, I guess. I'll be buying Swisscom branded phones from now on, as there seems to be some contractual obligation for Samsung to release updates for those. This will cost me more and I hate apps pre-installed by providers. Unfortunately, there are no other Android phones that support WiFi calling and VoLTE on Swisscom and come with up-to-date hardware and decent cameras.
