will S8 get Android P eventually?

Some of these comments doubting about the S8 not getting Android P is hilarious (and frustrating). Samsung typically releases two major Android updates after launch for it's flagship devices. Based on history, the S8 series will get Android O and P for sure. Also, the S8 runs the newest Linux kernel (4.4) which has longer support cycle by Qualcomm for future OS driver updates. If the S6 gets Oreo (TMobile variant is already in testing) then the S8 series will definitely get Android Q. FYI the galaxy S8 Enterprise Edition will get 3 years of software updates.

No one is questioning Samsung's history, the question is this:

Since Samsung declined to support treble in the s8, even by adding it via OTA, if Google makes treble a basic requirement for receiving an OTA to P, is Samsung going to add treble for it's users to get P?

The uncertainty is also whether or not Google will draw the line in the Sand this year or next. It's not like they didn't give oems 3 years of warning if they do pull the trigger on P.

If Google makes Treble mandatory for Android P then Samsung along with other major OEMs (Huawei, Xiaomi, Motorola, HTC, etc.) will need to implement it, no questions there. Most likely, Google will not impose this restriction because if it does then no other major Android OEM will be able to update to P unless the underlaying partition is implemented, which is a big deal. Some might just pull it off but I'm not onboard that Google will be mandating that requirement.

I mostly agree with you and it is pretty certain that they're going to make that a requirement for updating to Q, but not P. Because everything that is shipping with o has to support treble, both devices that were going to get Q probably did not start out earlier than O, with the exception of maybe the original pixel... But even its two years of guaranteed major updates and prior to Q.
