So, part of what makes the Nexus S so fast is the new implementation of the ext4 file system. You can read about that here.

The reason why most current phones will not see this is because they rely on SD cards for their storage space. The DInc is different in this regard: it has 8 GB (half of the Nexus S' 16 GB) built in.

So, will the DInc see the ext4 file system when it gets the Gingerbread update? Thoughts?

On the Nexus S, /data and /system are ext4, while /cache and /efs are YAFFS2. The way its set up now, the Dinc's internal storage is just storage.

Changing the partitioning to use any of the storage, then using ext4 isn't something I think HTC is going to do. But someone else can :)

All this is is speculation, but more than likely the partitioning and file systems will stay the same, because changing them would mean the phones need to be wiped and the update ran from a PC, which means 95% of the people with a Dinc would need to take it to Verizon to get it updated.

tl;dr -- nope. Root it now, and someone will get it done.

Thats off on htc's part....they arent making the best use of the phone's potential. Thank god Im probably getting an S soon.

Ill probably look into some type of hack to mimmic what the nexus s has, although it wont be the real thing..but i cant do anything until mid week because thats when i get my laptop back from being fixed

Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk because im lazy.

Oh, I'm definitely already rooted.

So basically you are saying that, while HTC wouldn't do it due to a side effect of this being that the storage would be wiped, someone else (XDA devs, I might just be looking at you) might?

Thats exactly what I'm saying. HTC doesn't care about squeezing out a bit more speed, they will keep what works.
