Will the LG Nexus have AT&T LTE?

Hello All,

Sorry if this has been asked already.

I noticed that the FCC filing did not have the bands for AT&T's LTE. I also noticed that the only LTE Galaxy Nexus is the Verizon model ( I may not be looking in the right place).

With that, does this mean that the LG Nexus will not have AT&T's LTE frequency?

  • Don't worry about radio freqs just yet. Google's not going to leave anybody out, I'd imagine.

Man, everyone forgets about my poor little Sprint Galaxy Nexus (with LTE). It's like the red-headed stepchild of the Nexus family.

;)

I'll offer my opinion. Since the majority of Play Store Nexus devices go on T-Mo, it's probably premature to include LTE given the other tradeoffs currently.

Once T-Mobile moves HSPA+ off of AWS and onto PCS (in progress) and launches significant LTE (which is slated to use AWS) it will be time to include LTE in the "Play Store Nexus". IMO it will be the next one.

This article talks about the T-Mo upgrades in the context of the iPhone 5 with AWS LTE, but the same will hold true for a Nexus.supporting LTE on AWS.

To answer the OP's question, if at&t frequencies are not included in the FCC filing, then it will not work on at&t's network.

But that just leads to more speculation of an at&t only nexus, or multiple devices being released.

Yeah not to mention a situation happened with the Nexus One in 2010 when the Droid Incredible and EVO 4G were announced and out for VZW and Sprint. Both of them had talked about getting their own versions of the Nexus One. But, because the Droid Inc and EVO had similar to better specs than the Nexus One, on top of being manufactured by HTC, I believe it was HTC who came out with answers to questions from the public stating that if they want a phone similar to the Nexus One on those carriers to simply just purchase those phones.

Same thing here. The Optimus G with LTE is coming to Sprint and AT&T, which will have nearly identical specs to the Nexus 4, manufactured by LG. I feel the same thing will happen here. No point to carriers putting out and marketing a nearly identically spec'd device made by same manufacturer which will eat up potential sales of the other phone they're pushing. Besides, if the N4 is like the GNex and has pentaband HSPA+, then AT&T and T-Mobile won't have to bother offering a carrier subsidized variant of the N4. Unless of course T-Mobile wants an LTE Nexus 4 down the line.
