Will the official bumper save the Nexus 4 from drops?

I decided to go with a case, but If I had a bumper instead, this dual screen protector would protect the back.

Received the OEM bumper and sadly dropped the phone down a few steps of the front of the house the same day. There are two scuff marks on the top and bottom corners of the bumper which isn't bad since the phone is unscathed.
