Will there be a Pixel 6a?

It's fine to not care about specs, but personally I'm not ok paying £700 for a £400 phone. That was the problem with the 5.

We paid $699 due to the Verizon mmwave 5G support that came with it. Otherwise the P5 would've been $599.
The pixel 5 unlocked was 699 from Google. What Verizon did was make it seem like you were paying for an upgrade. When you were just buying a regularly priced pixel 5.

I think there will indeed be a 6a version. The primary upgraded feature will be the storage. 128/256/512 options on all devices. Or perhaps the 512GB storage will only be an option on the Pro model. That kinda sounds like Google.
