Will there ever be a true successor to the HTC HD2?

The HTC HD2 was, as many people say, the best phone ever made. There is a reason for that. Just look this phone up and you will see that it can run pretty much EVERY mobile OS ever released (Windows RT, WP7,WP8, Android 1.6 to 7.1, MeeGo, WM6.5,etc...). Now with the advent of Project Treble and other technologies, will anyone make a new "immortal" phone that can run at least 7 years worth of Android versions? I'd really like to see/own a phone that would last for far longer than today's devices do. I am a natural tinkerer but I am freaking frustrated by manufacturers controlling how our phones are used. I always dream of a phone that is totally open to the user and let's the user do WHATEVER he/she wants with his/her device.

Do you really believe any phone manufacturer will ever make that mistake again? Plus the hardware of a 7 years old phone wouldn't cut it nowadays.

HTC would make a comeback if they made a new HD2 that could run GSI images with no compatibility issues.

How well does the HD2 run all those OSS though? Will it be as smooth as newer devices in running the latest Android release for example?

As far as I know these things can be done with other devices but it's down to developer support, the HD2 was released at a very good time, it came with Hardware that was already compatible with most of those OSs as most early Androids and early WP devices used similar hardware.

You can still buy a phone like a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 or LG V20 and mod them to run the latest OS versions, but the experience won't be great.

Is there anyone who actually used the HD2 as a daily driver with all those OSs after 2012?

Ultimately my question is, GREAT the HD2 ran lots of OSs but how Daily Usable was it?

Well, that modding level is not necessarily just for daily drivers. One of the hinderances on modern devices, besides locked bootloaders and self-bricking "security" mechanisms, is the fact that our phones DO NOT HAVE REMOVABLE BATTERIES!
