Exactly. I think the tri-fold is Samsung's next big thing. I'm not interested in it at this moment, I think we will have flip, fold, and tri-fold.

I'm hoping competition does it's job on pricing.

I have seen some videos and reviews of the tri-folds and it's going to be a hard sell for me. The folable is great because of the dedicated outer screen and inner screens. Having them be separate is great. Once unfolded, the tri-folds, to me, would be a bit too big for daily use. I would probably just unfold to 2 screens like the Fold we have now more than opening it up all the way. This would pretty much negate the tri-fold capabilities and make it a waste.

I agree. I personally think the tri-fold will be a fail in the long run. After people get them they will more then likely see what you are saying.

I just find it absurd that we're talking about $2K phones of any kind. Absolutely not worth it for any feature.

It's not for everyone, for sure. I think that because of high trade in is the very reason people are buying them.. As for Apple Fold, we'll have to see what Apple brings and if the fold is ever going to be released, and what they'll offer for the trade. Most of their trade-in is the bare minimum of a couple of hundred dollars.

Here are some of the reasons I jumped on the Fold 7:

1. The trade in, I got $1100 for my older S23U, there was NO WAY I would have been able to sell it for anywhere close to that.
2. I am a previous Fold owner and LOVED it, but it was just too thick and the screen was not as durable. The Fold 7 removed the Digitizer, so no SPen (which I had, but so rarely used it was okay to me), but they made the screen thicker for durability.
3. The outer screen size increase (and thus making the inner screen bigger). I'll be honest, I use this phone folded more than open because of how nice the outer screen is. I open it up when browsing the web and watching videos. For the most part, I use it closed and it's great to have the option as well as a more "normal" feeling phone rather than a cramped style.
4. IT'S SO THIN!! This is a good and bad thing for me. When closed, it feels like my old S23U as for thickness. When open, it's so thin it's almost hard to hold, but I am getting used to it and love it overall.

I am not sure Apple is going to be able to really compete on all of these fronts. Their upgrades have always been lack-luster and for a V1 Fold from them, IF it is as thin (or near enough), they would have made so many compromises that it's going to not do well. I have an inkling that it's going to be a clunky, under-performer and have plenty of issues that are going to make the early adopters more apt to keep their old phone as a backup vs trading in and jumping on this with both feet. I just hope they learn from this and improve.

As much as I am NOT an Apple fan, I have to give them credit for making the mobile phones what they are today. Until the iPhone came out, the carriers had all of the control and the makers had to follow their guidelines and whims. Apple changed all of that and for that, they have my respect.

Interestingly, I spoke to a guy at a T-Mobile store last week and asked him how sales of foldable devices are going. He said that few customers buy them because of concerns about a lack of durability. Granted, that's only one carrier store, but it appears to me that the demand for foldable devices is much higher amongst users of this forum who are tech enthusiasts than amongst the general public.

I wouldn't put too much stock into that. Most tech enthusiasts like us are savvy about how and where they purchase these devices and usually purchase direct from Samsung or another retailer like Best Buy to get them unlocked and get the best trade in offers. However, even when Apple releases their foldable I do believe they will remain niche devices mostly popular with professionals and power users. The Fold 7 has increased the popularity a bit, I think, and the iPhone will as well but sales will likely remain a very small piece of the pie compared to devices like the Ultra line or the Pro Max on the iPhone side of things.
