Will Windows 8 (tabs and phones) kill Android?

When my laptop dies, I would get a Windows replacement tablet/keyboard combo mainly because I use industry software that is not available in any other OS format. I do think Windows will maintain its presence. Maybe not like how they did in past, but still will be a strong competitor. Look at cars, many manufacturers with their own niche and competitive offerings.

Yes, it will, and here is why:
Microsoft has a lot of services as compared to Google. Google is no where near to provide services like xbox or office, it is these strengths of MS that will lead to WPs success. I know it will not happen over night, but down the road probably 6 or 7 years later maybe.
Microsoft plays a very tricky game where it lasts better than its rivals. We know people use Windows in Offices, We know millions play XBOX, we know Microsoft Office is still unmatched when it comes to business. The fact is, with these services combined into a smartphone OS Microsoft has at least guaranteed that a fixed amount of people WILL buy into WP and shift to the One Microsoft platform. And I don't see any Google alternative to these. Google can use Youtube for its defence but a billion apps alone are not enough to save it against the might WP is going to become.
Now hear me out before lashing out about the might of WP. I didn't mean in terms of market share. I meant that WP has different kernel than Android, its in fact the same as the Windows RT. that gives them a whole lot of room to do things which are not possible on Android. Like streaming XBOX games to your Lumia 520 from the cloud (they did it in an internal conference) such things are only possible on WP and are sure gonna win lots of users.
Anyways, I have always loved Android, I love how it manages its home screens. Kinda wish that it was on WP too :p

I have a ps3 lol.

I would disagree with much of what you have said. Google does have a rival to Office and it's free. Google Docs is a great solution for many people. Businesses may need something like Office but I don't think that this alone can help MS win the mobile wars. Many also question what the lifespan of gaming devices like xbox and ps will be. If anything Apple demonstrated that these markets are not out of its reach. iPhone and iPad are important reasons for the significant dip in the market. Google only further added to their problems.

I also feel like you're looking at this from a application perspective and the sense I get that this is less and less of a factor. Despite lacking a version of Office for the longest time, tablets still gained market share. Does the average users really care? I think not.

I'd argue given that the OS is becoming less and less a factor, as many applications run across platforms, MS Windows is at risk of losing out to iOS, Chrome and Linux over time. Look at what Apple has done with the latest Macbook Air. It runs a scaled up version of iOS and is hugely popular. I'm not a fan but I can't deny what they have accomplished. I'm and Android and Windows supporter but I don't fear for Google. Unlike Blackberry, they don't sit back and watch the competition close the gap before they decide to do something. They are constantly developing new technologies but more importantly buying start-ups with great ideas. In the last few years they have bought over 50 small tech firms. They have huge cash reserves which gives them an advantage.

I don't wish MS any ill will but I think they need something far more innovative to even begin to approach Apple and Google. Like another said, they will claim and maintain third spot with little effort but beyond that it will be a real uphill challenge.
