Will you buy the s9 or stick with the Note 8?

The S9 will likely be a great device, but likely not *enough* of an update for me from a Note 8. The repositioning of the fingerprint scanner to a more sane location is somewhat tempting.

However, the Note 9 *could* have the fingerprint sensor under the glass which would be as big of a leap forward as FaceID is on the iPhone X. I'd bet a lot of iOS users may defect for that.

Yeah the finger print scanner is about the only thing i hate about my note 8. Complicated further by my case profile. Getting screen based detection should be pretty nice.

I am going to stay on the note line.

I had the Note 5 and jumped ship to the S7 edge for battery life and was going to get the Note 7 when the priced dropped, then the whole recall fiasco happened. So I picked up an S8 plus and was going to stick with that until the S9 plus but ended up giving in and getting the Note 8.

The plan is to stick it out until the Note 9 comes out unless the S9 plus is just out of this world then I might pick it up.

Since I got the 2 yr device payment trade in credit from Verizon I will be using my note 8 for at least two years, which I am fine with. I will look at what's out in 2 years and decide then about upgrading.

We just got Note 8's from Samsung unlocked versions. Only because they gave us $300 a piece for our 7 Edges and we each got a free DEX. We've had every HTC EVO up until the 9 which we didn't care for 8 was better and then decided to try Samsung and got the 7 edge on a 2 year contract one last time. We loved the 7 edge husband preferred the flat screen actually but we wanted the bigger screen so we chose the Edge. Plus we got 150 for our HTC 9's sold our gear for $60 each and so basically our 7 Edges cost 90 bucks and we're on contract till March and owned our phones.

I kept saying I was wanting to wait till Jan and get the 9 and then I kept looking at the 8 Plus but if I was going to upgrade I wanted the latest and told my husband I only wanted to upgrade if I could save up and buy the phones out right and keep our good plan and I wanted to try unlocked in case we switched carriers. But I have been happy with the Note 8 and signal so far. I had read an article about the latest phones having this HPUE better signal thing and decided to check into it. When I saw that Samsung was giving $300 for the 7 Edge and the free Dex worth $150 I told my husband we had to do it and that we should try the Note only because it had more ram and the dual camera we didn't really care about the pen and I don't use it much but I wanted the latest phone out and the deal was so good I didn't want to wait for the 9. We love our Notes and will stick with them for a long while. Only had them for like a month. It's fast battery last longer than my 7 Edge even though I think it's the same size.

I know people who have had the 8 plus and now the Note 8 and they all say different things but I read the specs and lots of reviews and the Note 8 is the same as the plus except for the pen dual camera and more ram and 6.3 screen over 6.2. My husband saw a camera feature he really liked so that and the extra ram made him want the Note. And the 9 all I keep reading is will be a Note without the pen and maybe 4 gigs of ram and a little faster processor to me not worth upgrading. We love our notes and will hopefully have them for a long while.

you thought well about it and made the right choice and got a good deal to boot, what's not to like :-)

This is exactly the same boat I am in. Want really going to get the Note 8 but picked one up yesterday man I missed the S pen! If the rumors are true about the S9+, I will wait for the Note 9.

If the rumors are true about the S9+ that will add:

1) 845 processor
2) Dual cameras
3) 6 GB RAM
4) Better FPS

Then it makes it a nice and cheaper alternative to the N9 if you don't need the S-Pen of the Note series. The under-the-display FPS may be the key differentiation between the Note and S9+ next year. I wouldn't be surprised if retails for $899 as well.

P.S.: The smaller S9 is rumored not to get the RAM bump and dual-camera.

That would make the S9+ not an upgrade over the note 8. If this is true, I will wait for N9.

The main reasons I opt for the Note line are the S Pen and size so the S line doesn't really interest me.

If the Note 9 is a significant upgrade I'll take a look at that, the likelihood is I'll stick with the Note 8 for a couple of years though.

Imo even if the s9+ were 200 cheaper with a face id whatever, I still wouldn't get it... My note 8 has been running great. Now if you have Galaxy s6 or s7 hell yeah, upgrade. I'll wait another year if anything

Definitely switching to the S9. My Note8 freezes (I've had bad luck with both Note models I've owned, 7 and 8), and Samsung has made both the Note8 and S9/S9 Plus inordinately thick. They do not feel nearly as good in the hand as some other, thinner flagships. For that reason, I'm going for the S9 instead of the S9 Plus.

Just wondering if you will stick with the Note 8 when the S9 comes out and wait for the Note 9 or upgrade to the s9 Plus?

Personally I will stick with the Note 8. The S9 likely will be the Note 8 minus the spen with maybe a newer processor. Otherwise it will have the Note 8 features likely like dual camera and maybe 6gb of ram. I'm hearing the s9 might only have 4gb ram though and might be out in Feb.

It won't really be an upgrade over the Note 8.

Would you consider the Note 8 and s8 better than the iPhone X lol?
I love my note 8 so I am keeping it lol
