WIMAX ata stand still?

Does anybody know anything about what's happening with WIMAX? I haven't heard anything for quite a while and was just wondering if they are releasing any new areas or what?

Nope. It's dead. Clear ran.out of money to.expand. That is the main reason Sprint is switching to LTE. Clear says they are switching as well. We shall see.

Sprint said it will pay Clearwire $926 million for unlimited 4G WiMAX access through 2012 and 2013, and that about a third of that payment will be made in 2012. The agreement also guarantees Sprint access to Clearwire‘s WiMAX network through 2015, which means Sprint customers who purchase WiMAX handsets in 2012 will not have to worry about losing 4G service throughout the life of their device.

Wimax was never designed to be a mobile communication method. The frequency it operates on cannot penetrate most buildings.

The government catering to lobbyists killed Clear. They were rolling out city wide wifi, this was hurting companies like Comcast, Verizon, etc, so those companies lobbied Congress and successfully passed a ban on city funded wifi. A handful of cities implemented the wifi pre-ban and still have it.

I had a small taste of my Nexus running on 4G bands when I was down in the D.C. area recently. It made returning to my 3G area kinda depressing. :'(

I guess this softens the blow slightly... >___>

In other news, Owens also confirmed that Sprint would expectedly now be focusing all of its intention on its new LTE network, and not produce any more WiMAX-based phones -- although, as it's noted previously Sprint will continue to support the network itself through 2015.

I thankfully live in a halfway decent 4G (WiMax) area, I've read many a post about people "jumpng ship" to get LTE now.

According to Sensorly If I did I would have NO 4G service
