My evo 4g has the latest and greatest updates, never been rooted. Waiting on a new root method, so I can root it. I have a couple questions while waiting though. What is better to backup the phone with, Titanium or Mybackup pro? What and how is the best way to wipe the phone? I see where you can factory reset under storage settings and in the down and pwr boot up in the menu, you can clear storage. Which one is better or is there another way? Thanks for any help you may be able to offer.

For backups, I use MyBackup Pro. You can try out MyBackup Root (which is free) to see if it's for you or try the free version of Titanium Backup so you can compare.

When flashing a ROM you always wanna go through the Bootloader (Power + Volume Up) to wipe your phone. That way you can set the phone to factory, wipe cache, and wipe dalvik from one area.

you also might wanna check out the Rooting/ROM section for more info :)

Thanks for the help, that is very helpful and will be used. Right now, I am not rooted, but want to do a wipe and see if I can get this phone working little better. Which way is the best to wipe it, since it is not rooted. Thanks

If you're not rooted then just go through the setting like you mentioned. That will clear everything off your phone but you'll have to reinstall all your apps.

If I may ask, what about the phone is working well enough?

Since, the GB update the phone has some glitches. HTC sense is always restarting, internal memory is always saying it is too low. Things like that, things others have mentioned since the update. Those problems didnt exist before the update. I haven't ever wiped a android phone before, just needed to know the best way to wipe it and get a clean start. A fresh install never hurts. :D
I want to root, but have to wait for the GB root, from what I have been reading. Would you have any idea, if the temp root with z4root app works on the 2.3.3 update? I would like to use that and get rid of some bloat while I am waiting on full root. Thanks

No rooting method works 2.3.3 yet... Their getting close from the sounds of it though.

Also... Just use the factory wipe for unrooted EVO's.

And I have one question though, does apps like Titanium Back Up and MyBackUp "Root" work with unrooted EVO's??? I can see them working for things like downloaded apps and things that the user has downloaded. But will they backup other user data like call logs, sms/mms and system settings?

To the OP... Just do a factory reset from the menu, it will return your EVO to just how of was when you first it. On backing up stuff, your paid apps, emails and contacts will be taken care of by your Google account. Try out AppBrain on the market to backup all of the free apps you have.

Thanks, I will give it a shot. Wish the temp root method using z4root would work with GB. Then I could use TB and get rid of some bloatware too.
