there are a wide range of finger grip types of devices for sticking onto the back of phones, many of these are NOT compatible with the Samsung wireless charging pad.

i'm wondering which of these finger grip types of devices are actually COMPATIBLE with the Samsung wireless recharging pads?

Varieties:

- Pop Sockets (the new type with removable accordion bellows)

- Finger types of holders (metal flip up finger holders, numerous)

- Elastic band type of holders (Love Handles is one such brands)

Would really appreciate hearing others' experiences with these.

Thank you in advance.

It's not that they're not 'compatible', it's that they're creating interference between the coil receiver in the phone and the transmitted signal from the charging pad. So, right off the bat, you already have a minimum distance that has to be between those two elements. Add anything in between (i.e. too thick material) and the signal will be dampened by the distance alone, even if the material isn't too bad at propagating it (like metal plates, which already dampen the signal by material properties alone).

On top of things (no pun intended), the coils in phone and transmitter must align within a tolerance range, so if the holder isn't thick enough to create a distance between the phone and charger, it might be in a location where the material will dampen the signal directly over the coil.

While this is not just a problem with Samsung phones or chargers, those distance/alignment tolerances do vary from brand to brand.

@SpookDroid: thank you for your thoughtful and detailed reply.

Agreed! Poor choice of words on my part. I understand that it's a physical thing that creates the additional barrier or distance that renders the wireless charging to not work properly.

Hoping that someone would chime in who has both a phone holder device as well as the Samsung wireless charging pad.

Thanks, @SpookDroid.

Love Handles may work, if you don't have a case on the phone, and the Love Handle you choose isn't too thick.

Otterbox cases definitely work - I've been using them for years on many phones.

Pop sockets definitely don't work unless you mount it right at the top of the phone (and "hang" the phone in the charger by it).

Metal will shield the phone from the charger, so nothing metal will work.

i guess the new version of PopSockets, as the accordion/bellows part can be easily removed via a simple bayonet-styled twist (around 90 degree twist), it is the simplest to remove.

the remaining plate is plastic and is very very thin. please see below pictures.

maybe, just maybe, a base plate this thin, with the upper accordion bellows removed, might allow for wireless charging?

I am going to order the new popsocket and I heard it does do wireless charging when you take the top off we'll see. I am getting 2 or 3 cases and will put this on one of them.

in my situation, it's a little different.

i don't use cases, so my phone "handle" or "holder", whether it is a finger metal holder ring type thing, or this Pop Socket, it will be stuck to the back of my actual phone, not a case :(

Oh ok sorry but it should still wireless charge with the new popsockets.I have a ring on my case now and have never used a popsocket. My niece just left a case here and I tried it and like it ordering one tonight.

does your current ring allow for wireless charging? also, which particular brand/model of wireless charging pad do you currently have please?

thank you.

I'm trying to find them on Amazon the swappable ones I don't know how to tell which ones are?

I use a magnetic holder in my car and have put the metal plate all the way ay the bottom of the phone.
It works for wireless charging as that's higher up in the phone so I am sure a pop socket would work if you attach it on the bottom part of the phone.

I wanted to get my husband a magnetic holder for his car my friends husband had one and he cut his though so he could put it in the middle and still use his wirless charger. But yes I ended up going through popsockets and got 2 swappable ones. I love them. Never used a popsocket before and I have small hands and it makes holding the phone so much easier. The 10 plus is lighter than my 9 plus and I can just scroll with my thumb one handed. I have 3 cases and am in the process of ordering one more. I want to make my own with my cats picture on it not sure how it will turn out though.

Is it possible to get a picture of how your husband cut the magnets and how he arranged them to be able to use the wireless charging? I have a magnetic car mount and am trying to find solutions or alterations before going to replacement alternatives. I'm very in interested in knowing where the coils are for the wireless charging function and if I can get the best of both worlds (magnetic car mount AND wireless charging at home).
