wireless charger recommendations

No problem charging my N5 on my Lumia 920 charging pad. No over heating on rather my Lumia 920 or N5. Sounds like there is a problem with the phone if your N5 overheats.

Does wireless charging work through a TPU case of does the phone need to be naked?

It's a very random problem and its happening in an identical fashion to multiple N5 users. So if it's a problem with the N5 it's not just one device. I wouldn't assume that just because it isn't happening to you means you can generalize to all.

I agree. We've got two of those Nokia chargers and two Nokia Lumia 920s. In general, everything usually works fine. But, the problem has happened occasionally for both phones and both chargers (in one case, it actually drained the battery and shut down one of the phones). It's now happened once on one Nexus 5 on one of those chargers. I highly doubt it's an issue with each of these specific phones or chargers. I'm guessing it's systemic.

Anyway, I've just grown tired of worrying about it. Sticking the USB plug in is a bit more hassle and, over time, might break a pin, port, or plug at some point from wear and tear. But, I've never had a phone overheat from charging that way.

Those TYLT chargers sure are nice looking, though.

I can't blame you at all for taking that stance. Personally, I've decided to take the risk and hope that I at least don't have a fire. I've seen the videos on N5 battery replacement and decided that if the charger ruins the battery before it's time that I'll break down and attempt to replace the battery. I guess the benefits for me are just too compelling.

i'm tempted by this one but want to hold out for the Official Nexus 5 one. how do you like it?

I love them. Nice status light. Glows orange with no device, green when charging. The glowing orange light helps me find it in my dark bedroom at night without having to turn a light on. The puck lays flat, so I don't have to worry about the phone sliding off. The biggest selling point is that the power cord is micro USB. Wireless charging is slower than USB charging. If I need a quick boost of power, or need a data cable at work, I have one right there. I tried another Qi charger that the local Verizon store had, its power cable was a proprietary connection. That was a deal breaker, it went back to be exchanged for the 2nd LG charger.

I have been using the Lerway Qi charging pad. Less than $20 on Amazon, so I picked up 2 - one for home and one I leave at the office. No issues. Totally loving it.
