Wireless Charging Explanation needed plz

Can someone please explain to me how that works, and how do i find out which devices are compatible with it? I heard that is available on new n7, but i don't exactly know what it means.

You get a charging mat for your desk/nightstand whatever which plugs into the wall. When you lay your device down on the mat the device will begin to charge. you need special equipment but its relatively easy and pretty awesome. Does anyone have any experience with these for a long period of time? I'd like to know how the battery life holds up over time
