Wireless Charging versus USB

Does wireless charging shorten the life of a battery? I've read that the phone gets hot while wirelessly charging and speculation that the lifetime of the battery could be shortened. OTOH, I've heard the occasional story of a USB port gone bad from being plugged into the charger so often that it wears out.

I am part of the minority who like to keep their phones for longer periods of time, when possible. Therefore, I'm interested in the pros and cons of each method of charging. Or does it not really matter that much?

It doesn't really matter. The charging is being done in the same way in the end: by the charging circuit of your phone.

The power delivery method, however, is the one that changes.

USB ports, like any metal parts, can wear and tear and have false contacts. But then again, the wireless circuit that's actually touching your battery can also be prone to wear and tear and false contacts, just not as much as a USB port that is subject to constant use by inserting the plug in there repeatedly. Wireless charging coils can get hot while charging because, well, you're inducing an electric through those thin filaments. But unless it's a really cheaply made coil, it won't heat up as much as to be able to damage your battery or your phone.

Thanks for the information. So I guess it's important to buy a quality charger to mitigate the heat issue. Can anyone recommend some good ones?

I'm using the ZENS wireless charging pad. I really like it. No overheating with my LG G3. It's not cheap, runs just about $50 at the shopandroid store.
