Wireless charging with Android Auto on USB?

I have yet to see a car USB port that actually does a good job. I see a big boost in charging when I use a Qualcom Rapid Charge adapter.

So if I hook a wireless charging holder up to the Qualcom 3.0 charger and the USB C data up to the HU for Android Auto it may work? From the above photo you posted it looks possible.

The USB ports on cars are most likely USB 2 not USB 3. As more manufacturers incorporate Android Auto and Apple Carplay into their designs, you'll see USB ports with more power and data through put.

I use an iOttie wireless car charger that is connected to my BT add-on system (I have a 2002 Highlander). When my phone connected to the BT add-on Android Auto would automatically start. I don't have to plug anything in, just pop my phone into the charger and go.

Now for the record, I have turned off Android Auto's autostart function. Mainly, because I don't like Google Play Music and Android Auto wont' let me assign Samsung Music app as my default in car music app.

……………… … ..
Like I said previously. You can charge wirelessly and use Android Auto at the same time. You can set Android Auto to automatically turn on when the phone connects to a certain BT device. I have done this with mine. When my Note 8 connects to my car's BT, it automatically starts Android Auto. I just set it in my wireless charger in my car and I get both Android Auto AND wireless charging.

This is true only if you use AA on your phone's screen. If you want to use AA on your infotainment system's screen, then it is not possible to use wireless charging, at least not yet.

I have a 2018 Mustang GT model but it's still behind the times. I get very poor charging from the USB ports.

I have a friend with a new E-Class Mercedes and I think he has wireless charging built into the car. Although I doubt it's rapid charge.

I found some talk from a few years ago but does anyone know if it is possible to wireless fast charge while at the same time connected to Android Auto through USB?

My car's USB port doesn't rapid charge so I thought this might make for a good combination if it worked.

I can't add to all the good input you have already on your question...but I understand that a beta version of wireless Android Auto is being tested as we speak...your situation will be a thing of the past very soon.

Connect with a data cable, not a normal USB cable. (You may have to sacrifice a cheap USB cable - just snip one of the power wires.) Then the audio goes to the car head unit, but the phone doesn't see a charger connected, so it will charge wirelessly.

(I originally misread "rapid charge" as "charge". If the head unit does regular charging, it won't charge wirelessly.)
I destroyed a cable to find out if this would work - it did not. I removed the outer two contacts (the power ones) on the USB-A side of the cable. The car now will not recognize that the phone is connected no matter what.
