ok guys i have been posting on here qute a bit the last couple day i am having issues getting my teather to work i am running on the new rom that just came out with the updated radio trying to remember which one that is, however i don't remember my tethering working very well with that but i could have :) i used to have thunderom running the old firmware and i remember using it then all of the time. so i am not sure if it is something to do with a bad flash or what really quite lost at this point

What's the problem?
This was the most relevant thread to post in despite it being a sorta dead one. I got my free wireless tether working (using it now actually) and was wondering; what speeds are you guys seeing with 3G connections and full signal strength? I've gotten about 1.0 MBPS download and .25 MBPS upload. Is 3G really that slow or do you just get what you pay for?

I've gotten 1.5-1.7M before but it really depends, not only on signal strength, but on the backhaul and tower configuration as well.

Lately it has been much slower, in the 300-700k range.

If you are consistently getting 1M, you should be happy. It isn't the max that EVDO can do, but it is very good for how Sprint has things configured. Similar pattern with WiMax. When they first came out with WiMax people were seeing 8+M, now it has gone down to 2-3M consistent and at times can go to 6M.

Taking account the network as a whole, you might be able to make the case that paying more can get you better infrastructure, but there are plenty of areas where you can pay less and have the best bandwidth performance. If you don't travel much, you mostly care about where you use it the most so some will say Sprint is the best for them and others will say another carrier performs better. If you travel a lot, then the performance of the network as a whole becomes more important and you might want to look at other carriers.
