Wireless tethering

Has anybody been successful getting a wireless tethering app to work on an AT&T, stock phone, meaning not rooted?

From what I understand you have to be rooted to accomplish this, thanks to the greedy at&t.

Root and use the stock GE Rom and you're golden. ;-)
