Wish the Z1C had AT&T bands

If the Z1 compact had the correct bands for AT&T it would be a great value.
on sale now with minor shortcomings compared to the Z3C.
Then again, if pigs had wings they would fly.

There are a few things with the z1c like the plastic back, which is really easily scratched, The smaller screen In the same size chassis is a bummer and there was only I think an IP57- 58 certification vs IP67-68 in the z3c which is fully water proof and dust proof. A bump in processing power too. I think the upgrades justify the price imo.

It does have the correct bands for AT&T. Check the Xperia Whitepaper.

Yeah it only gets hspa no LTE for ATT
yup,
UMTS HSPA+ 850 (Band V), 900 (Band VIII), 1700 (Band IV),
1900 (Band II), 2100 (Band I) MHz
GSM GPRS/EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz
LTE (Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 20)

Pity, currently there isn't all that much of a difference really.

In 2014 it's a must have going forward.

My understanding is band 17 is missing so no LTE.
I'll check it out.

It works still works with AT&T because of Bands 2 and 4. As long as the other bands are there it should be fine without 17. I know a friend that is using a Z3C with T-Mobile and gets LTE as well even thou it doesn't have Band 12.

Band 12 is new and hasn't taken anything over yet. Band 17 is needed for you to get att LTE. I have a few friends with one and it does get hspa but it won't get LTE. Z3 compact though if you're able to get that cheap, it works with both LTE on T-Mobile and att

Band 12 seems to be a T-Mobile thing.

Band 17 is required if you are in a coverage area where only LTE 17 is used. Now with that said, it still does work if you are the coverage area with LTE 2 and 4. Basically it's not fully supported to simplify things.

Did your friend make sure the phone was provisioned? If not, they can prevent the phone from connecting to LTE.

From what I read:
Band 12 is also possible for AT&T for dual band usage.[in the future] It also gives T-M greater penetration being a lower freq. band.
read that is what gives Verizon their coverage: dual band strategy.

Alas, such is my fate.
Band 17 does the heavy lifting in my Area (mid NJ )

Seems like the "best" way to sidestep all the problems is by popping in a sim from a phone that had LTE.
From that AT^T post it appears the question was unresolved. Some got LTE coverage others did not.
also: using the IMEI from a AT&T demo with LTE capabilities is an option.
I'm kind of dense and don't understand the technology fully. Seems carriers like it that way and give misinformation when convenient.

I'm suspecting it's both problems as in not provision and not in the coverage area of the two bands. If I am correct, Band 17 is the the primary band for AT&T.

Now, when I gotten my new phones such as Z2 and Z3, I basically gotten a new SIM and had them provision the phone in both cases and I had LTE with success as I was able to invoke the phone to get the APN setting on it's own. One of the reasons why I gotten a new SIM is because AT&T does update their tower info and it's on the SIM according to what they said. Some of the problems about the APN depending if you talk to the rep that knows what they are doing, otherwise they wouldn't be able to do it properly.

Consumer Cellular, my carrier, utilizes AT&T towers. Unless you are lucky, phone support has little if any idea regarding the tech involved.
Following scripted responses is fine for hand holding, for technical inquires it does little. One must get to level two support for a fighting chance getting answers. Even then sometimes I wonder. Playing with APN entries does little if not provisioned on the backend. Of course if the Bands are not there it's a no go,
I'm a fairly technical savvy person, normal everyday end-users don't stand a chance. Then again, most wouldn't know/care about bandwidth. Just as long as they have "some" data they are fine....even if less than what they are paying for.

Agreed. I know tech stuff myself. Not sure since I normally get routed to enterprise customer support so not sure if it's different than the regular customer.

Rarely, I had to ask for level 2 support for these.
