With TalkBack mode on the notification shade won't stay open on Pixel 2 running Android 10.

[Android Central Question]

When I double tap the notification icon the notification shade opens for a brief moment and then closes while talkback reads the notification.
How can I get it to stay open so I can access the notificaion?

Thanks for the pointer!
I did not realize that I needed to two finger swipe down to access notifications instead of double tapping.
