Hello,
Last night, I rooted my Incredible, and played around with a few roms and kernels. I had a backup from right before I rooted. I loaded the newest version of the hydra kernel, but left the stock htc sense in place. This morning it froze on me on the way to work, but I was able to pull the battery and continue on.
I decided to roll back the kernel, but when i launched ROM manager, it froze before anything had loaded. After a few more (unsuccessful) attempts, I figured Id cut my lossses and restore the backup. MD5 Mismatch. At this point I panic'd a little, and tried to run the factory wipe. I can get to the end of the setup, and the screen goes blank and nothing happens. It feels like it just stops responding to any input and I have to battery pull to get any response.

Well I found the img file for restoring pre root and have run it, but get the exact same problem as before...initial setup will run, but the phone stops responding to anything after it is completed.

Im at a loss for what I can do now...please help!

Well the problem is fixed, although I have only a faint idea why.

I tried using Rom Manager, but it began freezing, and the entire phone became too unstable to use, and recovery started showing a phone with an exclamiation mark inside a red triangle.

The final time I tried booting the phone, I removed the SD card, and it came up and worked. I had tried clearing the phone storage before, but apparently that hadnt "fully" cleared the storage? Anyway, with the SD card out of the phone, it is working perfectly now.

I would still like to continue experimenting with the phone, but would love to understand why it behaved this way....

Thanks for the responses - I apologize for the delay, I had to run out and couldnt get back to mycomputer till now.

Make sure your SD card is formatted in FAT 32.

The formatting has not been changed at all. It simply went from working to, well, not. I will double check it shortly, I left it at home when I went out. I am worried about the phone screwing up again if I do put it back in...should I be? Thank you again for the replys.

The only thing the SD card does in the process is to act as a source for the zip files that you're flashing. Once that process is done, the phone doesn't need the SD card at all.

Well, when I put the SD card back in, it said it was damaged and needed to be formatted...perhaps I just have a bad SD card? I am gonna tinker a little bit more, maybe the format was damaged before, but since the card wasnt being used much until I started all this the problems didnt surface?
