I bought my Nexus a few months ago, had it stock for a while then ran Paranoid Android for a spell until my tablet stopped auto-rotating. It will rotate when forced by an app, but it won't rotate when I spin it. Then I tried CM10, until I learned that it doesn't support the gyroscope anyway... (lucky me.) After that I restored back to a previous nandroid, which was stock but unlocked. Still no beans... I have the rotation lock off, I'm not that dumb, but is there something else I'm missing? I tried a racing game where you steer by turning to see if my sensor was funked. It worked just fine. I'm currently running stock ROM updated to 4.2.

Thanks in advance.

any Ideas? Should I just email Google? Is it hardware? software? will they help me even though Ive rooted?

Since you've rooted and messed around with ROMs, even though you're back to (rooted) stock, I'd suggest posting your query in the Rooting subforum. But some shot in the dark ideas...
* Did you install the Ultimate Rotation Control app? If so, disable it.
* Do a factory reset and unroot it.
* If you call Google support, don't mention that you had previously messed with the OS.

You could install an app like Android Sensor Box and see if you're accelerometer and orientation sensor are working.

Good idea! I've not used that one, but instead one called AndroSensor. Either way, not a bad idea to check for defects in sensors using one of these programs.
