worse battery life after lollipop update.

I updated my phone yesterday and it works pretty well. Big problem though the battery life is taking a big hit. After unplugging it this morning I only used it to read some articles on chrome and within that time it dropped to 80%. This is really bad considering battery life is set to be 48 hours. Now I know 48 hours is too much if the phone is being used but I would get 1 day and 17 hours of battery on one charge. Now the battery is down to a day and 3 hours. Is there something that I could do to fix this or is downgrading back to kitkat my better choice?

Do you have the T-Mobile version? I just updated mine the other day and it's just as good, if not better. You could always try doing a factory reset

The first thing you should check is what is actually consuming the battery. Open your Settings menu and look for a Battery or Power option; within this you should find Battery usage. Here you'll see battery consumption broken down into the various apps and services running on your phone.
If there is a particular app that is consuming a lot of power - which can be the case with older third-party apps that haven't been optimised for newer OSes - kill it. If things don't improve following its uninstallation then you can always reinstall it.
Thanks to the tips below this article we know that many users are reporting excessive battery drain being caused by frequent Wi-Fi scanning. It's worth turning off your Wi-Fi when you aren't using it to see if this extends your battery life at all.
Going back to that Galaxy S5 I spoke of earlier, those who have called tech support have been told a factory reset may solve their problem. And in (some) cases it has improved things, but I sympathise with those for whom a factory reset is the last thing they want to do, losing all their personal settings and customisation options in the process. Be sure to back up anything on your phone before you take this step, if you choose to do so.

Give it some time. Usually the first few days are crappie on battery life. Also, like was mentioned before, with such an update you should do a factory reset.

Yes I do have tmobile. Would you be able to tell me how much battery life your phone states on a full charge?

I have checked the running apps and I could say that I made sure nothing is running. As for Wi-Fi it's always off unless I'm home but I'll look into running apps again maybe I missed something. Restoring my phone blows but it's fine. I have several back ups of the important stuff. Thanks for your input hopefully a hard reset helps.

Updated Mine yesterday. Still great battery life. And I've had only good experience with the update. Plus band 12 works,

I also have T-Mobile and my phone's battery is just fine after updating to lollipop. My guess is, it seemed to be a bit faster too.

My battery lasted just over 28 hours with 7:18 of SOT.

Did you hard reset your phone after updating and did the battery life act weird for a while or did it work fine right away? After I hard reset the phone the battery is still draining fast and it says no apps are running. It stated 4 days of battery life for a few hours while battery was draining. After a few hours it dropped to 6 hours left. Just curious about your experience cause 28 hours it's exceptional.

I did a hard reset right after the update. On kitkat I would usually get about 6hrs SOT and 32hrs overall. I've had to unfortunately use my phone a lot the past few days but I'm hoping that I will go back to my normal usage in a few days.

My phone is showing that one of the battery usages is cell standby. Idk what that means and it's killing my battery the most next to the display which is reasonable but what is cell standby and how can I kill that?

My Z3 was working fine on lollipop for a few days, but then the battery started running down very quickly. I did a factory reset after the update. When I look at the battery use statistics, Android system is at 39%, the battery used to last all day with fairly heavy use, but now runs out after a couple of hours. I also noticed that the battery charge status is sporadic. Anyone else have this problem?

I was having this problem too. I changed the charger and it seems to be charging better and also holding charge better.

I cleared the cache and restarted the phone and it seems to be working normal now.

My wife says her battery has gotten better too, and she loves her T-Mobile Z3 even more after the lollipop update.
