Couldn't they at least have said something like - "we are working on it and want to make sure there are no issues before rolling out" - or something more positive than the following?

Obviously I didn't expect a date to be given - who would, but something at least positive sounding would be nice...oh well. It was worth a shot to see what the response would be.

I saw Samsung get bombed yesterday with tweet after tweet after tweet from AT&T users asking for the Captivate so I thought I would turn that to Verizon.
 
Yep, it's very frustrating man, I hear ya. Unfortunately, I've come to expect nothing less from Verizon when it comes to inquiries about these sort of things.
 
And what ever happened to DJ05? I know some users here are running it, but is it going to be rolled out, or will they just roll it into Froyo?
