There are some great deals on this phone just now. I was wondering what Sony’s software support is like specifically with the following:

Are they good with monthly security updates?
How long do they support a phone for with security updates?
How many android versions do they update a phone with?

For instance I’m with Samsung just now, I know they aim(often fail!) monthly updates for three years and two version updates.

It's still a very good phone with great specs. Sony supports their premium devices like this one for 2 years with security updates and their low end devices for 1 year. I do receive monthly updates.

The XZ2 Premium is available soon but personally, I prefer the fingerprint reader on the side and I like the headphone jack. Both of those are missing from the new model.

We now have Sony’s official Android upgrade policy, which confirms that its premium devices are supported for two years after the device has launched. For mid-range devices, the length of support is less clear, with Sony saying that it may not choose to upgrade if “testing does not meet our exacting standards and we feel the hardware isn’t capable of delivering a stable user experience. ”

Thanks. Read the info you provided. Two years isn’t good enough for me sadly. Most makers are three years (Samsung, Nokia etc), I’m hoping android phone makers increase these, especially as Apple is now supporting for 5 years.

Youll find almost all phones nowadays are 2 years OS updates, 3 yrs security, including Google due to the fact that alot of people, at one time, tended to change their phones every year..

However, now-a-days in 2017 and more-so in 2018... more and more people are holding onto their older devices, due to flagships being far too expensive (iPhone X, Galaxy Note 9, Xperia XZ2Prem..etc) and the so-called "Updates and New Flagships" features are so small and incremental.. that the huge prices dont justify these "little" upgrades...

Ive just come back to SONY after a break, with a Pre-owned, yet BNIB XZP... and while the camera is a little quirky and requires some learning to get the best out of it... Its a fantastic device.. still getting 6 weekly - 2 Monthly updates, great screen, Speakers are excellent and much louder now on Oreo, 3.5mm Jack.. battery life is good..

And we will "eventually", get Android P...

Worth the cost IMO..
