Worth It?

CES 2012 has seen the launch of a few quad-core tablets and phones and MWC will bring more as well.
In such a scenario, is the Galaxy Nexus worth a buy or should I wait for one of these quad-cores?

I've been struggling with this decision as well. Depends on how long you are willing to wait. I don't expect to see any of those phones (in Canada anyway) until at least Q3/Q4 2012.

I've been reading a lot on the Nexus, good and bad reviews. In the end, I'm probably still going to get it. I really like the idea of a stock ICS phone and the ability to customize it right out of the box. I played with my friend's S2 and I did not like the Touchwiz. It looked really busy to me (I know they will get ICS too). People have complained about the camera, but the pictures in the camera thread look great to me. The lack of MicroSD is somewhat disapointing, but it likely wont bother me since my music will probably stay on my iPod. I would only load movies and shows on there - might as well with the beautiful screen!

While it certainly isn't the top Android phone, I think it's the one for me!

Seeing as a quad-core with a pure Google experience won't happen until next Fall at the earliest, I'd say it is. 1.2 GHz dual-core is still no slouch.

The developer support on this phone is frigging amazing and its going to continue to get better and better. Really with cloud support there is no reason to remove the SD card. I have every song on my home computer on my phone with Google music. Unless you like taking your SD out to transfer files(really, who does that?). Even then you can just hook a USB cable from your comp to your phone. The SD card issue is really a non issue when you get down to it. Quad core would be nice, but I will humbly wait for the next nexus with a quad. Developers still have their hands full utilizing the power that is currently available in ICS with a dual core.

Developer support? You guys have 50 people making almost identical roms. It's really not as huge as one thinks, especially after you start comparing each thread over at xda.

SD card doesn't matter much for me as I have a 2GB card and it still isn't full...
But, I assume i will take a little bit more than my current space as i will put some videos on it to enjoy the screen and the apps will take space as well but still, 16GB isn't too bad.
I guess I'll settle for the Nexus then (still have to wait till end of Jan for India launch :( )
Thanks everybody for replying.

You do realize these things take time, right? They're making strides barely a month in. Trust me, rezound troll, these roms will get more and more diverse and feature rich. Hell, they already are.

im not a rezound troll, i came from a nexus and i liked it actually. if it wasnt for the volume, vibration, missed calls, dropped calls, no 4G, no data connection half the time and some other "minor" things i would have kept it. i waited until the last min to take the gnex back, it hurt, i do regret something. but ill take a working phone over a "developer" phone at this point. i've been through hell with my dx and dx2 with replacements all the time, im not going through the same crap with a brand new gnex. i want a working phone out of the box, not a phone that has to get better over 5 updates every month. update to fix volume, update to fix radio, update to fix this, that, this, that. nope im straight on that!

but im comparing the roms for both nexus and rezound over a xda. the nexus has tons of roms 15 or so im guessing? the rezound has around 5 or 6? but there is really no difference in all of the roms on both end. so i just dont see this "amazing" developer support? if the rezound have 20 developers posting the same thing except minor differences you would have a bunch of ppl over here bragging. gnex is awesome, not knocking the device at all but to hear people say its the savior of verizon and what not makes me "lmfao". and i undestand things take time, but the rezound just got unlocked and there are already great things going on. i guess the true test is once the rezound gets ics roms, see what ppl say then, senseless ics rom on the rezound w/ those specs sounds nice to me. only a matter of time.

Totally agree, there isn't much out there as of now. The big boys haven't released ROMS yet (Cyanogenmod, MIUI) and the 10-15 roms out there are all very similar. I anticipated way more development at this point. Kernels also, not that many. No big names, (intersect raven, savaged zen etc.) Hopefully CM9 gets released soon so that whole world opens up

I can't believe you're comparing a HTC Rezound to a Galaxy Nexus (arguably the best device on the market) Good luck getting an ICS rom for that "Game changer" Lol but smh
