Would you buy the next gen Moto 360?

I just got the 1st Gen 360 since it went on sale in anticipation of the new version. I am really happy with it, but from what I've heard rumored about the 2nd Gen, it will fix the shortcomings of the 1st one - thinner, full circle, faster, etc.

What are people's opinions on what's to come? Would you buy the new one right away? or stick with your 1st Gen?

Speaking of which... what is taking Motorola so long in making an announcement?!

I love the first one, if the new one is a substantial improvement I will probably get it.

SUBSTANTIAL. That's the key word. Don't get me wrong; I love my 360 -- I'm an early adopter in all things tech, but I refuse to to buy into Android Wear hardware/software for the next generation if it's only an incremental move forward. If "incremental" ends up being the next generation, then I'll wait until next year around this time when there are some fire sales. Surprise me me with something revolutionary, and you'll gt my dollars in round two. Otherwise, I'll wait until round 3 (with the previously mentioned exception of cheap-o deals when the 2nd generation goes on sale).

I'd like to see a full circle, faster chip, NFC, speaker and the ability to take calls incorporated into the new Moto 360. But this would require Android Wear to be updated to make use of some of these features.

I don't think the next generation will be that much of a leap for the moto 360.

If you look at other smart watches, they all still run the same processor. The battery is also limited to the small watch size with current technology also. I imagine Motorola will probably remove the flat tyre and increase the battery slightly and processor to what we currently see on the market. It's also hard to see them topping the current effort physically also as it is already a beautiful device. The actual general consensus is that they may even reduce the size of the watch

The main area of improvement will be the future proofing of the smart watch. I doubt the moto 360 will make it past update 5.1.1 due to the 5 year old processor but the next gen moto 360 will be better equipped to handle future updates past a year of its initial release but instill don't see the second generation being a complete overhaul of an improvement, just incremental and may not be worth it if we already have the moto 360 (but you never know!) . I think the 3rd-4th gen is where we will see the major leaps in functionality and features.

I am a current 360 owner and plan to buy the next gen if it has the 3 features I'm looking for. A 2-3 day battery, ambient mode and a light sensor. A stronger battery is a must for all smart watches. I am happy the current 360 but I hope the next one has a real ambient mode. I'm not a fan of a totally black screen and I would like to see the time without pressing a button or having to move my wrist just right so it turns on. If the urbane had a light sensor I would have bought it already. My first android ware watch was the zenwatch but i was unhappy when i had to keep adjusting the brightness of the screen.

I hope you get what you are wishing for, but I don't see anyone delivering a multi-day (3 or more) smart phone battery until at least the third generation with the singular exception of Pebble, who's original black and white lasted for about 5-7 days, and the new Pebble Live color watches lasting just as long. The new Steel Live is supposed to offer up to 10 days. Not as attractive as the 360, but that's a helluva lot of battery.

I know I'm overly hopeful on the battery but the ambient mode and light sensor is a must.

This. NFC is a feature that would make me really consider an upgrade.

What are all the things you'd use NFC for on the watch?

Google Wallet / Samsung Pay payments would be my reason for wanting NFC. That's the one feature on the Apple Watch I'm jealous of. It would be more convenient to hold my watch up to the payment device vs. getting my phone out.

I'd be afraid of it accidentally sucking monies from my account when I don't notice my hand is too close to the little kiosk thing when I'm standing at the counter. I don't know if it would ask for a confirmation or what, since I've never used any NFC (because I'm scared).

If the next version changes the band/bracelet configuration to be even MORE proprietary, then that'll be a deal-breaker for me. One of the major plusses for me buying this watch was being able to fit my watchadoo bracelet to it with only slight modifications. I dislike all the watches with their special bands and buckles - I need to don my timepiece with a quickness, especially since it needs to be cradled by its charger every day.

One thing I've noticed with my new update, is I pretty much cannot swipe DOWN anymore to see the battery life and which notification theme is currently on duty. I'll try dozens of times, and it still won't go, then it decides to swipe erratically. Very disconcerting.

I noticed it stays in ambient mode all day, while sitting on my table, by itself now. Things are getting weird.

When you use your phone (with NFC), it brings up Google Wallet and you have to enter in your pin. You then touch the device again to confirm. I imagine it would work the same way on the watch.
