Would you switch to a Droid X?

I mostly have switched from a SF to a DX, but the main reason is one some people probably would come to a different conclusion about. I switched because I really hated the video on the SF, expecially the oversaturated colors. The DX screen is clearly and significantly better for video than the SF IMO, based on side by side comparisons of my two phones. IMO the AMOLED hype isn't what it's cracked up to be.

The DX GPS also turns out to be far more rapid to lock and far more reliable, if that matters to you.

The phone audio, especially outgoing, is far better on the DX than the SF (LOL, does anyone use the phone any more???)

My DX has the original 16gb card, so that's a draw.

I prefer the capacitive buttons on the SF to the clickies on the DX, and I slightly prefer the slimmer physical size of the SF, but both work in my shirt pocket.

Blur and TW both should be embarrassments to their developers...

Other than that, my very short version is that it's basically a toss-up, but I prefer the DX and that's what gets most of the pocket time here.

just switched from a Dx to a SF for the second time... started with a Dx traded to a SF, Then traded back because i was pissed about not having froyo yet... Finally switched back to the SF because like stated from shark earlier, the hardware is simply superior... The supe ramoled screen embarrasses the DX, and it is snappier. ive tried every rom under the sun, rooted, unrooted, and even completely stock running LPP or L7, this samsung is the best phone on the market..IMO

just wish samsung would put out faster updates, could blame it on verizon too

The X has MUCH better battery life, GPS, and reception/antennas.

The digitizer seems laggier than the Fascinate's and the X just doesn't seem to run as fast. Of course, in my opinion, the X's screen SUCKS by comparison.

Fascinate is very rootable and tweakable. The X has an encrypted bootloader, so no custom kernels...but I've read about some "bootstrapping" method that circumvents that. I'm just not sure how much more development that has spawned compared to what's going on with the Fascinate.

The Fascinate dev community is pretty good.

I really don't see how the GPS could be any better....
My fascinate locks indoors in about 3-5 sec. .....faster outdoors....

But then again.... I could very well be Special... :p

Seriously, you may be special. We have four SFs in the house, and only one has a GPS that works at all.

So, for the OP, my crisp answer:

Spit yes, I came out of pocket for a new DX O:-) and put the SF on the shelf. :'(

NO...not special at all... there are quite a few people here with GPS lock times
like that..... But I know for a fact that they stopped running 2.1...;)

My SF (may she R.I.P) got me back and forth from Jersey to GA a number of times flawlessly so.......

oh and i also was i a DX lover till i found my SF

Theres lots of Droid X Converts on this forum. Me included, the screen doesnt have the colors of the Fascinate, and theres a point where the size of the phone and screen size no longer provide for a better phone and instead just make it bulky and cumbersome. That extra .3 inches on the DX is what makes it too much, 4.0 is exactly right.

I don't necessarily think it's the screen size of the DX that makes it cumbersome... The form factor of the DX with that camera bump just ruined it. I'm very intrigued by the SGS2, and it is a 4.3". But is also only 8.5mm thin :)

Camera bump never bothered me with it. The length of the screen was too much for me use it with one hand easily, I constantly found myself readjusting how it was positioned in my hand.

I guess this is YMMV. I can deal with the DX. What I couldn't get used to (and still haven't) with the SF was the fact that the power button was directly opposite the volume rockers. I am always pushing the opposite-side buttons without intending to.

Edit to add: the capacitive buttons on the SF make one handed use a lot easier at that level than the DX's clickies. So, neither is optimal for one-handed use, IMO.

Had a Droid X and went to a Fascinate. What pushed me over the edge to get the Fascinate? Here is a list:

1. Radomly lost cell service and had to reboot to restore
2. Phone whiped my SC Card... TWICE... and corrupted it the second time.
3. Too bulky and Camera Bulge was Ugly
4. Camera took horrible pictures

The phone whiping my SC Card was the last straw. And I wasn't the only one to have that issue, my friend who still has a Droid X has had his SD Card whiped clean 3 times.

+1 for camera bump. So bulgy and ugly. Thats what kept me away.

When i went phone shopping last Sept. i was debating between the X and the Incredible but the size of the X and that bump lost my attraction plus they ( Frys Electronics) wanted $199 for the X and $43 for the Incredible....then my eyes shifted a little bit and i saw a phone for $0 ( with the 2 year contract of course) and it was the SF...i liked the size of the screen and the thickness and thats all i could see at the time ( all the phones were dummy phones) so i took my chances with the SF and glad i did. The screen is awesome and all the customizations are just great and no ugly bump.
