Get ready for another big price increase in 2021. Hopefully the battery life goes up for the 5nm SOC chip. It should.

It could be worse. Apple is going all out in cutting costs to offset the huge Qualcomm 5G price increase including not giving customers a charger to charge their phone and reducing the battery capacity.

I paid 624.00 for my Note 20 ultra with trade in of my Note 10+ , so as long we get good trade ins and if I like what I see most definitely .

Of course, this is the assumption that the Note 21/30 whatever it's called don't all come with Exynos 1000. This is precisely the type of stuff that would drive Samsung to do that... and guess what - you'll still see a price increase. lol

It will be funny if the next Note is released with the S series... It would be the first time since the S8 and Note 8 that I would buy a new Samsung phone so quickly.

Noooo. Well, as long as they release both series in August! I don't want to buy the next Note in march right after I just got the Note 20 Ultra!

But you gave up a device worth nearly $1000 and could have been used for 3 more years. It may have been $624 out of pocket but it certainly cost more than the cash. Trade in the Note 20 next year and it essentially cost you $624 to use it for a year and not keep it.

A lot of people forget the trade in is actually worth something, including me. We just see the price after trade in and forget the value of what we are giving away.

Buying a new phone once a year is never going to be good value but the value loss I see it as an acceptable cost of ownership to have the best of the latest and greatest every 12 months.

That's why I try to be patient in my old age and go two years now... I traded my Note 9! Even that hurt... just thought it was time and the 20U was worthy!

Ahh ok , let's look at it this way
I bought the pixel 3xl full price for 980.00 traded it in for Note 10+ for 530.00 then traded that for Note 20 for 634.00.

So 3 top end phones cost me 2134.00

Freebies
Buds 170 with note 20
Buds 170 with note 10+
Case 20 for note 20
Case 20 for note 10+

380.00 total Freebies

Now total 1754.00 so 3 devices 2 buds and 2 cases cost me , is that bad ?

About the same for me after trading in my Note 9 and then getting the 10 percent refund trick after already applying my military discount.

I got price to a point I liked to where I actually bought phone outright for the first time ever.

But I usually do this every other year. So I'll wait and see how the phone is before making that jump of course.

Usually you can get a really good trade in for a 2 generation removed phone based on my experience. The trade in for Note 9 was like $100 less than Note 10 trade in.

And I bet you the price drops soon for trade ins. It's always at its peak when the phone first gets released or pre-released.

Yeah I don't mind paying these prices as long as we have trade ins , if u wait every other year it drop a little for the trade in but still instead of 650 maybe 450-550

I'll probably hold on to my Note 20 ultra little longer since its got what I wanted but we see next year with the new Note

I don't care, I live in Exynos land :-)

But you know Samsung will pass along the Qualcomm increase to the European counterparts. :) Maybe give you guys the clear case, headphones and screen protector to make up for it.

Personally, I take money out of the equation. Everyone has different wants, needs and income. If I want something, I buy it because its within my means because I know my limitations. I have enough saved that I don't need to worry any longer about saving more but I'm still able to put away 30% of my income. The trade in just softens the blow to having the latest and greatest. Some prefer to make payments of 50 dollars a month and hold on to device for 2 or 3 years. Its a personal choice.

Agree trade in is good but I personally don't consider the price of the phone as MSRP minus trade in price. It's not like Samsung gave me a free phone to trade in. I still paid money for the phone I'm trading in and especially if you are trading in previous year phone it still has value and they aren't giving only decent value for it. I tend to avoid thinking, there offer trade in so it's ok for phones to be expensive. Phone trade in is just another form of cash which OEMs want to make us feel like it's a good deal and avoid sticker shock. Sure there can be good deals with trade in as well like sometimes offering way more than what's it's worth for older phones. But if you are trading last year or recent phone, all you are doing is paying the total cost in another form of currency which in this case is phone.

And yes, pre order gifts and other discounts are nice but I don't consider price of the phone as total price minus trade in.

Personally, I'm going to buy the phone anyway with or without trade in but I do realize the full cost of the phone.

As the saying goes....no such thing as a free lunch.
