Wow i feel like the step child with the EVO

The iphone v4 seems so much like an interim hardware release.

Just remember some with dual core chips will be here before you have had any of these phones for a year. Given the speed at which things change the screens will probably be slightly improved also.

Personally I really like my evo. It has pretty much replaced the need for a tablet or netbook for me but then again I don't bow to peer pressure and I am a geek so the iphone doesnt really interest me.

What EVO do you have.....lol?!?! You came from a blackberry and complaining about EVO video quality......you can't be talking about the same EVO I have....lol???

Why are you guys being so defensive...calm down. I own an EVO and I can kinda see the op has a point. And he is leaning towards getting a Droid X not the iPhone 4 yet most of posts jumped on iPhone issues. I am kind of in the same boat because I have light leakage and loose screen corner and now I am concerned if I swap it out I will get hardware 003 which has the Epson lcd on which the colors don't look as good. And its not just about benchmarks, the colors on the Droid x do actually look better. The crazy thing is that if I switch to Verizon I will be paying 10 bucks less since I use Google voice and won't require a texting plan.

My point is I guess is that not everyone has to love the phone YOU own, and this is forum to discuss all things EVO not just all great things EVO. And if someone doesn't like the phone you own and is going to return it that doesn't mean you made a bad decision because we all have different needs and desires with these awesome smartphones.

My buddy bought the iPhone 4, display is sweet but that screen looks tiny and I can't go back to anything smaller than 4.3 inch now. Plus I love Android and Google voice.

You think we attack a person for not loving the phone we love? Its not like that at all. You should actually question the OP for why he post something like this on an EVO message board. Did he realistically expect everyone to say " you are right, lets all hold hands in mass exodus of the crappy EVO"? No one phone is for everyone. But if you come here and saying the EVO is garbage and not even a good phone because you saw a benchmark test that you dont even understand then you should expect to get called out on it. Its not the reaction to his post that is out of line. It is your reaction to our post that is. If a person has the phone, used it and evaluated it to be not a good fit for them then thats fine. Leave quietly out of the back door. Leave respectfully out of the back door. We all wish him the best. But if you post on a message board that the phone most of us love is garbage then expect backlash. And if you dont want to read it then dont.

The Droid X looks like it's a great phone, but it's not leaps and bounds above the Evo and I guarantee there will be threads just like this for that phone. I can find a thread like this for every phone out there including iphone, nexus one, incredible, etc. There will be one for the X too.

No one phone will ever be perfect. You just have to decide if it does the things you need/want the most and be happy with it until your next upgrade. Thankfully with Sprint that's once a year for me. I'll love my Evo until my year is up.

youre in the 30 day window, stop all the whining and return the phone. Im sure AT&T or Verizon will gladly take your money. good riddance, sorry to come off as a **** but its getting frustrating seeing atleast one of these threads daily

The issues with the Evo 4G are going to be fixed very soon. The benchmark tests show how the evo responds when its being capped by HTC. A developer has already broken the cap of 30fps and has seen a huge increase in speed.

You also have to understand that the Droid X has its own GPU. While thats awesome and all, its going to have the SAME if not WORSE battery issues. From my experience with standalone GPU's in a phone, it crushes the battery life.

There's cons and pros to both phones. Once the 30fps is fixed, we'll be right on par with the Droid X. The Evo has a front facing camera, smaller form factor, sexier look. The Droid X has its own GPU and three mics.. I mean its all basically a wash.

Just a few replies to peoples questions for me.

I don't hate this phone, there are many things that I enjoy about it. I do love the screen and how big it is. I don't think I could ever go back to anything smaller. But what I'm frustrated aboutis the minor flaws that persist on a phone I had high expectations of. And sure rip me on the benchmark test video if you want but that video illustrates what I have experienced from a video/display fact of this phone...its handicapped

A super smart phone handicapped...even typing that pissess me off. I find it frustrating that I can't smoothly scrool through my apps, this is unacceptable for a phone of this power.

A ilso never complained about the photo our video quality of the cameras...I'm pretty happy with that aspect, I complained about the dumb design to have the camera protruding. I hate having a cell phone case but forced to with the evo so I don't scratch the camera.

I'm not giving up on my evo yet but still have lots of thinking to do...and no three iphone isn't even an option for me..its either evo or the X

The Droid X is thinner but longer. My response from HTC was that they are investigating claims that the 30FPS can be fixed through a software fix. So I think HTC will eventually issue an update to fix the 30FPS themselves. Who knows when that will happen, though.

Besides, when Froyo comes out for all of these phones they will all be beasts and faster than the Iphone 4. That's really all we care about, right? :)

the specific comments of the OP are unique, not what some of us might post, but people do talk. in general, i kinda see the point of this type of post. years ago at my house i used to own apple macs, some times several macs at a time. back in the nineties they never were quite up to what they could be. that's what caused apple computers down fall. for me it got bad, in my small city i was almost the only mac guy in town, including at work, so i had to switch to wintel. apple recovered to rule the world only when they got around to putting all the technology of the day together.
for me, i am crazy about the evo. it is a useful productivity tool and a fun toy. but i really get only 3.5 hrs per charge and i have noticed sometimes graphics are not smooth. the evo was developed like essentially right now. the age of mobile is fully upon us. knowing that froyo, then cup cake were coming, why didn't htc give better under the hood performance and use a heavier battery and better power control? for me it's a rhetorical question, but i do want an answer in the next evo

You do realize that the Droid X is going to be outshined by a phone probably by Thanksgiving time at best. Welcome to the smartphone world. It's advancing at an insane pace. Just pick a device that you will be happy with. I love my Evo. Is the Droid X better? Maybe by a hair. But that doesn't matter. The Evo is still one of the best smartphones you can get and probably will be able to get for some time. You're also one the cheapest network of all the carriers with your smartphone. Stop complaining and enjoy your phone.

Jerzyiroc couldn't have said it better and I thank you sir because these were going to be my comments to the T. Once you go ahead and get your pockets raped and once you see another toy that looks shinier and more pretty you will jump ship again. Trust me I know, I was with Verizon earlier this year and from January to May I owned the Blackberry Storm2, Motorola Droid and HTC Droid Incredible so I know about leaping from phone to phone but the fact remains that Sprint's billing is the cheapest around and you won't be able to beat it. Data speeds are faster and Sprint doesn't have their heads up there asses as far as hoarding updates and delaying them. The grass is not always greener on the other side my man and if you choose to leap you will find out soon my man.

I don't understand why people create these threads. It's like they need support to ditch the phone ...

Because they are insecure and want their decisions validated by others. It may be annoying, but it?s normal, unfortunately.

no, i think there can be a more adult reason, conversation.
conversation about our muscle cars. we all talk about our cars but no one ever goes 120mph

1. Any Evo vs. Iphone comparisons where the Evo doesn't come out on top is a conspiracy perpetrated by "biased Apple fanboys" who are "idiots" and should be boycotted.

2. Any Evo vs. another android phone comparisons where the Evo doesn't come out on top are based on tests that really don't matter in the real world and thus are "irrelevant".

3. Anyone who complains about "minor" issues such as light leakage, screen separation, poor battery, random reboots, grounding issues, unresponsive screen, or 30fps caps are either seeing things that aren't there or are just being "anal whiners".

4. Any Evo owner who has the nerve to post a thread about their personal experience or dissatisfaction with their Evo are "trolls" just trying to cause trouble because, afterall, this is an Evo forum.

5. Any Evo owner or Evo enthusiast who posts threads in the Evo forum detailing problems with the Iphone are one of the good guys.

6. Any Evo owner who posts an "I love my Evo", "Evo Rocks", "Evo FTW", or any other "feel good" thread should be thanked for the usefulness of their contribution to the forum.

Hopefully, this clarifies our position on the matter.

Seriously? Come on man.... are you 5? If that was the case I would buy an I phone with and bow to the apple dictatorship. I was simply expressing my concerns and how it didn't live up to what I expected out of a flag ship super phone.

I can deal with having my phone be dated in 6 months, but 3 weeks seeing a phone do what its supposed to and what I thought the evo would do blows.

And to everyone that argues, it does what a phone is suppose to "make calls"...seriously if that's all I wanted I would have bought a basic flip phone. If you market your flag ship phone as a powerhouse beast, it should deliver

The moment you walk out the store with a phone, it immediately becomes old news, that's how fast technology is moving.

What do you do with the Droid X when 4g becomes available on Verizon, it will never do 4g. Also, what about video chat on the Droid X, no front facing camera, and this poster wants the X?

I think your expectations for what it can do are unrealistic and believe that you may be disappointed by any Android phone available now or in the next month.

Have you tried to make adjustments to your device to address the problems that you perceive with the EVO?

Any Android smartphone will require adjustments to have it perform optimally if you have expectations in using its features beyond phone calling. It needs and warrants a bit of user time to have it perform to expectations. This is both the good and bad of Android, but I would hope that you know this.

Whatever you decide, good luck, but I would advise you to slow down a bit and see if you can make the device meet your expectations.

A) I love Sprint.
B) The Evo is the best phone on Sprint.
C) Therefore I will stick with the Evo.
If you are having problems with your unit, keep exchanging it until you are happy. Period. I have had no problems with mine.
D) Remember one HUGE advantage with Sprint is in just one year we will get to upgrade all over again and can buy the Evo 2 (or whatever) I think I can “deal” with my Evo for one year. i:)i

Users on other carriers will have to wait two years, well without extra fees anyway.

While I am here I will say it here and now so listen up!

Benchmark tests are NOT conclusive on what the overall user experience will be.
Even some of the editors here put WAY too much stock in them.

I have a decent PC at home, When I run benchmarks I can see it is not 100% top of the line and the marks are not as good as other computers produce. I can see some rendered scenes run slower than others. At first impulse I think wow that sucks. Makes you feel a bit depressed and wanting more, that is human instinct.

Then I actually play a game that I play, a good graphically intense game like Battlefield Bad Company 2. It plays just fine! The game is intense and I have all my settings up full. If I went only by those benchmarks I would never have actually tried the game thinking it could never play it. Every game and experience will different in real life use. How often will you be playing a high intensive graphically heavy game anyway? If you are doing that a lot I would suggest you just get a damn PSP or something..,

So yes benchmarks are a great tool for measuring overall worst case rendering. Is a phone that plays back silky smooth in a benchmark faster than one that doesn’t, yes of course in the worse case, full out rendering tests, it sure is. The thing to remember though is very few games push the phone to these limits and for 95% of users they won’t need that!

Games can be optimized better and froyo will make a game with slight stutter now, run silky smooth anyway. So while it may not be top of the line it will be just fine for most things.

So my entire point is don’t take benchmarks as gold for what the phone can do, that is just being sucked into the numbers game. We need to see how it runs on the device itself.

Couldn't have said it any better, plus it came from a fellow steeler fan, which makes it even better haha.. You from pittsburgh?

But anyways, I can almost guarantee once the 30fps cap is off, you'll see outstanding results, thats what I dont get about this thread. Seriously, step back for one second and realize that all these "Benchmarks" are basing a lot of their findings on FPS and its being tested on a capped evo.

Be patient, think of it, this is the first BEAST Android phone on the market, there's going to be glitches.

So you are saying, you already know for a fact that the X will do what it is suppose to do? But really you just want the latest.
