I rooted the phone earlier today and ever since the locations have been coming up from all over Europe. (I'm in san jose).
If I open up Google maps it pinpoints my exact location just fine.
Anyone know how to fix this?
Did you remove anything from your phone since root? Are you running the stock ROM?
Turn off VZW location services, and only have GPS and google location services on
Go to maps and lock on to your position, then manually refresh your weather.
Leave VZW location services off.
Anyone else have any thoughts on this one?
Well the few times this happened to me, I looked up the location and realized that the latitude was correct, but the longitude was off by about 200 degrees. Usually when I turned the GPS on it would go back to my correct location. I had to do this a few times before the phone would go back to normal without the GPS turned on.
I have disabled and re-enabled the GPS multiple times, including multiple reboots. It doesn't seem to be that the lon or lat is off. In the past 24 hours my phone has been in Algeria, Estonia, Lithuania, Romania, and Brazil.
Algeria and Romania are pretty close to the same latitude as San Jose. The other 3 it sounds like both the latitude and longitude are off.
Have you tried a battery pull? Turn off all location services and then delete the widget from your home screen. Go back into settings and re enable all location services. Wait a few minutes, then add the widget back to your home screen and select current location. Try clearing cache in your maps as well.
Have you tried different weather/time widgets? Beautiful widget or Fancy Widget are really good, and Weatherbug, although isn't as nice as the HTC widget does the job well.
Tried clearing everything out and re-adding the widget, and now I'm no longer in Lithuania. Now im in Vandra Parish which according to Wikipedia is in Estonia.
Weatherbug is telling me I'm in Parnu, Estonia. Which looks like it's on par with what the stock weather app is telling me.
I haven't tried a battery pull yet. Where should I try prying the back cover off?
You know, taking the back off and putting it back on may be all you need to do. Just make sure you snap the cover back on all the way. Pretty much all of the antennas have contacts on the battery cover.
I really do wonder if this is a network issue. After the weekend I returned to work and my location was gone. The stock HTC widget just says current location.
At home it sometimes shows me in my city, or one of the other 2 cities that are close by. My guess is it is using towers and not gps.
Did a battery pull and am still getting the bad location data. For those in the know, here's the software details if it helps:
