Hello!

I have XIAOMI MI 8 phone (operation system Miui global 12.0.3 and Android 10 QKQ1.190828.002) and I kindly ask you for information/advice how to resolve an unusual problem that occurred on my phone.

It seems as the application (Find my phone) crashed, because everytime I unlock my phone, after 3-5 seconds the telephone resets itsself. This means it turns on again, but when you unlock the phone it resets in a few seconds no matter what I do.

I tried the FASTBOOT - volume down button. When I restarted it, I hold the volume down button and it goes into the fastboot. Then I restarted the phone again and it didn't help.

I don't want to do hardboot, because I will lose my data. Is there any option to retrieve my data (I want my photos) from my phone in a save mode without unlocking it?

Does anybody recommend any program that can access the phones data while the phone screen is locked?

Thanks for your help!

Have you backed up your photos to your Mi Account or to Google?

If so, I think your best option is to factory reset your phone. If that doesn't resolve the issue you could have a hardware fault.

Also, have you tried booting into safe mode?

To enter safe mode :-

Power off phone.
Hold power and volume down simultaneously until the Mi logo appears. Then release the power button still holding the volume down key. Safe mode should then be enabled.

Welcome to Android Central! I would also recommend testing in Safe Mode.

Hi! Thanks for your reply. The problem is that if I go through "enter safe mode" procedure, I get into Fastboot mode. A picture with the rabbit and robot appears and it stops there. You can only restart the phone again, nothing else is working, it stays there.. Is there any other procedure how to enter safe mode?
Thanks!

Turn your phone off. Then press and hold volume down and power. Once the logo appears let go of power but remain holding volume down until it boots up. It should say safe mode at the bottom.

You can also get there while the device is powered on. Hold the power button until menu that says power off, restart, etc. Then click and hold power off and "restart in safe mode" should appear.

If you your going into fast boot mode your not doing it correctly.

Try this

Steps to boot Xiaomi Mi 8 into safe mode

1.Power off the device
2.Press and hold the power button
3.When you see the Xiaomi logo release the power button, press and hold volume down button
4.Release the button when you see safe mode on the bottom left corner

Some Chinese manufacturers don't allow Safe Mode for some unfathomable reason. Xiaomi might be one of them.:-\

Xiaomi is not one of them.

I've just put my Redmi Note 10 Pro successfully into safe mode to check it.

Ah, thanks for the confirmation, and also sharing the proper steps.:)
@gina25, are you certain you're following the steps dangerousfen shared above to the letter? Did you release the Power button but keep the Volume button pressed when you see the Mi logo?

One problem to be aware of when using safe mode on Xiaomi phones. When you reboot to exit safe mode, it doesn't always repopulate all the 3rd party apps on your home screen.

Apparently, it's the launcher's data getting scrambled when entering safe mode, which needs fixing.

You have to manually move them back from the app drawer.

To make this less painful, I always keep screenshots of my layouts and copy them to my laptop for reference.

Good tip

I was curious why Find My Device is resetting? your phone.

I was going to suggest going in to Find my Phone and checking if there's still an erase or other command pending. I'm still not sure what it would show you after looking at it.

Is your Mi 8 on Find my Device.

Just for info when I tried the (green now!) Find Device app on my Xiaomi Poco F2 it wouldn't load anything... map, devices etc.but that could be something I'm missing, or the system shutting unused apps

However going to Find my Device on a browser (Chrome) worked a charm and listed my 4 devices. Two or turned off but it showed the last time they were active and where. Curiously my other Motorola left at home with a sim and data even showed it's current battery percentage.

Anyway, if you could log in to your account on some browser and go to Find my Device you may be able to check or cancel any lock or erase conmand .... but I don't know though I'm sure others here will.

Hi!
Thanks for your answer. I entered MI account, but my phone/device is not syncronized anymore, so I cannot do anything. Anyway, maybe it would be good to know I never downloaded any app "Find my device", so I guess it must be an original Xiaomi app, which was already installed on the phone. I also went to a couple of repair services and they all said it would be the best to hard reset, it is the only solution, but in this case, I lose all my data, photos tec...

You need to put it in safe mode to see if it is still happening. The reason we want you to do this is because in safe mode everything is disable except for what was sent on the phone from factory. So if your phone works fine in safe mode then that tells you that it is an app you downloaded that is causing the issue. If it is still doing it in safe mode then a factory reset will be required.

Hi!
Thanks for your answers. I succeded entering the safe mode, but it makes no difference.
I downloaded a MI PC SUITE 3.2.1 program to be able to enter, but it doesn't work cause my phone is locked. Then I tried another another version PI PC SUITE 3.0 and I was able to get in through MAIN MENU (power off button, up volume button and it shows MAIN MENU MI-Recovery 3.0 on screen). It showed 3 options (Reboot, Wipe data, Connect with MI Assistant). I connected with MI assistant, but the program was in Chinese letters and we tried to translate, but I think it was useless again.

To sum up, I think there are no options left than to hard reset and lose all data...

If you successfully enter safe mode you will see that your phone will boot up exactly the same as it does normally but it will say safe mode at the bottom. That's the only difference beside the apps you downloaded will be greyed out on your home screen.

Safe mode:
-power off phone
-wait 2 seconds
-hold power button until you see logo screen
-let go of power button
-hold volume down until your phone boots up and you see your lock screen.

Find my Device comes pre - installed on my 2 Xiaomi phones, and with yours.

I don't think you want to follow some advice for reasons known to you, and I don't think you are revealing everything.

You also seem to know a lot more than I do (as I'm just an end user)

If the phone is locked by someone I don't think Safe Mode will open it, but I could be wrong.

I don't know when or where you acquired it, but you should be able to resurrect the Mi account and the Google account for the phone without needing that phone, and so get help from Xiaomi and Google to recover your phone. Good luck.
