Dont touch me with a ten foot pole cause I can cause you all kinds of trouble.

Seriously tho, when you get a OTA update you can choose to save it and apply it later. It is saved to your sdcard as update.zip. What you would do is boot into stock recovery and apply the update.zip. In the early days of roming people use to publish update.zips and that is how you would add a new rom. Not sure why the option hasnt been removed since the better option is to choose the .zip from your sdcard now.

OK, while we are on the topic of Xionia recovery, I have some questions as well:

I have some backups I made using Xionia recovery over the past few days/weeks. When I try to restore these backups, I get an MD5 error and they won't restore. Not sure why I get this error, but:

Q1: I did rename the folder (I removed the timestamp and added the rom name). Would renaming the folder cause the MD5 checksum to fail?

Q2: Going forward, is there a way in Xionia recovery to validate an MD5 checksum of a backup without going through the restore process? I couldn't find a way to do this, but it seems like it would be a useful feature. Does Clockwork recovery have this feature?

Edit:
Ok, I'll answer my own questions here.
A1: Renaming a folder doesn't cause the MD5 to fail, but putting spaces in the folder name DOES. Beware.....
A2: Use the program AFV (Android File Verifier) to verify nandroid backups.
