Does anyone know if there's an available app or something that allows chrome on the xoom to open PDF's? I need them to open for work and it's annoying they don't right now. Thanks in advance.

Thanks, but the BeamReader you suggested did not work. What makes it more frustrating is that my buddy just got and Ipad at lower cost due to the Ipad 2 coming out and his pulls up the same pdf's just fine! Did not make the xoom look good...

There should be a stock quickoffice pdf reader on the device. Mine had it. If you are looking to buy Repligo Reader is a good app that allows annotating as well.

Hmm... that's odd. I thought I linked MobilePDFViewer. But either way I do know what you mean.

Strauss, where did you buy your Xoom from? I just checked mine again and don't have a copy of Quick Office on it.

edit: Huh, what do you know. While I don't see it in the app drawer I went to open a file from ES file explorer and it gave me quick office as an option for which app to use to open it.

I've seen a few posts now that "quickoffice" is pre-installed, but it's not on my stock Xoom. I have Adobe PDF Reader simply because it was installed on my Droid, and I registered my Xoom with the same Google account so all of my Droid apps were "restored" to my Xoom.

If you have Adobe Reader on any other Android phone, you can use a backup program (ex: Astro) to backup your apps to your SD card. Then you can copy the apk for Adobe Reader to your PC, back up to your Xoom and install it from "Unknown Sources"... it's not optimized for Honeycomb, but it works very well.

From what I've seen even having Adobe Reader installed doesn't permit PDFs to be opened directly from the browser, but you can download from the browser and then launch Reader, and your Download folder will list the new PDF for easy access.

Is "quickoffice" installed as part of "ES file explorer" perhaps?

Quick office, from what I can see, is preinstalled to read only. If you email yourself a word doc, which is what I think I did, when you open the file it asked if I wanted to use Quickoffice to open it. As for PDFs, I installed Adobe Reader and it works fine.

I don't think so for one reason. When I use quick office to view a file its the, as of yet unrealesed, tablet optimized version. I highly doubt es file explorer would have access to it.

Btw, I'm a little worried I got behind the wrong office suite. Now that RIM bought data viz I'm not sure how much effort will go into android development.

I was looking at Adobe's system requirements for Adobe Reader and it lists Android but 2.1 and 2.2 only. I'm thinking they haven't yet developed a Honeycomb friendly version yet.

This is the whole reason I bought this thing. So I could use it remotely for work. Another good excuse to be out of the office. But I guess that will have to wait...bummer.

Xoom comes with QuickOffice preinstalled. Beamreader works a little better on some of the more graphic intensive PDFs. Don't see why you should be having issues - have you checked your settings to see if you've got the right app opening your PDF?

Yeah, it's stock, and as others said, you can't launch it directly, but only indirectly! Under the "documents" folder on the SDcard I found a folder named "Sample Files", and it contains sample Word, Excel, and Power Point files. These were prr-installed, as for sure I didn't put them there! Using any File Explorer app on my Xoom I was able to tap the filen ame to bring up a context menu, and sure enough Quick Office was an option. It's a reader only and as a freebie, does a good enough job...

Using beamreader as well and it's well worth the money!

Although I do appreciate the info, I'm trying to figure out how to open a PDF through Chrome. As of right, all I get is a bunch of script text pulled up in the tab it default opens. If it's something that hasn't been developed/optimized fro HoneyComb then I will have to deal with it.

How are you getting Adobe Reader on your Xoom?

PDf in Browser

I used for work embedded PDF in the browser, I am unable to open them on my Xoom. Do anyone know a solution?
