xoom on 4.0.3 but nexus is not.

Well the Xoom was Google's choice as a hardware reference for Honeycomb, and it's a stock device. In a way, the Xoom is like a Nexus device so it doesn't surprise me it would get ICS quickly. Keep in mind the 3G/4G Xoom hasn't been officially updated to ICS yet.

While being a Nexus has the advantage in no third party manufacturer UI mucking up the works, it's also a mass consumer device with specific hardware and radios that requires testing and verification which can be a lengthy process. That means Google isn't going to pump out updates on a weekly basis (although they could, it just wouldn't be very wise.)

If the above were true, then Google wouldn't be talking about developing their own tablet.

The whole point of a Nexus phone (at least the way I understood it) is that Google provides the updates directly without the carrier getting involved and slowing things up. If Verizon gets involved and we have to wait for their testing, then the phone is no different than a Razr, Rezound, etc. in my book.

The ones complaining about the the carrier being involved an upgrade are the first ones to raise Holy Hell when a release comes out and the radio doesn't work properly with the carrier's netowk.

You can't have it both ways. Either you have all parties that develop for the product involved in a release upgrade or you risk some parts not working together properly.

I suspect that Google "own tablet" will be developed by Google's Motorola Mobility Division. Same division that made the Xoom.

What people seem to forget is that the 4.0.3 upgrade for the XOOM is for wifi only version. No carrier involved. It's much easier to bring out an upgrade that won't be used to dial 911 with somebody's life on the line.

Would you want your phone to brick just as you dial 911 and then have Google say, "Well, hell, we were pressured to rush this thing out and we didn't consult with the carrier before pushing out the release. After all, this is a Nexus device and we don't need to consult with Verizon. Sorry for your trouble buddy, but we'll send flowers to your grave site."

Nobody knows that. At this point, I'm not sure I'd suspect that. At least in my opinion, Google doing something like that would only be an improvement to Motorola.

ROFL. I saw this coming a mile away. All the hype about getting a Nexus on big red...what a crock. Big red is going to delay updates to the Nexus just like they delay updates to everything else. If you want a real Nexus device...switch carriers. 'Nuff said.

You make a lot of phone calls from your Xoom?

LOL...^^^

I make calls on mine occasionally..lol. I can wait for Updates. If I really want it bad enough, the ROMS are there for the taking.. My Xoom is working perfectly fine as is, an update that would speed up the keyboard would be great, but I have been fine with mine.. As I have with my Nexus. Outside of the terrible stock battery life, I am very pleased with my Nexus.

LOL. So, by "real Nexus", you must mean something like the Nexus S 4G on Sprint... Which is STILL waiting for ICS, much less an update for ICS.

To those hating on Verizon:

Lets think about this for a second.

What sense does it make to blame Verizon for a hold up, when GSM users do not have 4.0.3 officially either?
