Hi there!

I have an Xperia XZ3 that I have already for 5 years and all of the sudden the main camera decided not to work. I open it and it says that an error occurred and told me to reinitialize the app or the phone.
I tried to reinitialize just the app, cleared cache, forced stop, deactivated it and same result.
I reinitialize the phone and the camera worked (once) and then the second attempt I do to open it, it generates an error again.

I searched on google and there were some guys of Reddit saying that had "the same" problem and said it was the camera connector that is misplaced due to falls and use. But that would make sense if the camera didn't work at all, even after reinitializing the phone. So I have strong believes that is not a hardware problem. But what do you guys think?

If you agree with me, what do you advise me to do to find what what is the error, and/or the remedy to it. I would like the option of formating the phone to the last thing on the list.

Welcome to Android Central! Try booting into Safe Mode, in case something you installed is interfering. If the problem goes away in Safe Mode, then the next step would be to uninstall apps one by one until the problem goes away for good. This can be tedious, but you can start by finding out which apps have Camera permission, and prioritize those.

If the problem still happens in Safe Mode, then it's more likely a hardware issue.

I did that too, sorry forgot to mention. I thought it could be a problem of third party app but I putted phone in safe mode and I had same result. When it restarted, it worked once and then second attempt to open the app, the camera doesn't work and after some seconds it says it has error.

Can you help me out making it make sense? Because how can it be a hardware problem if after reboot, it works always the first time?

Sorry, but that would be too technical for me. Maybe it'll work briefly after a cold start, but once it's active for a brief period, something overloads, like perhaps a connection on the motherboard?

I suppose you could try a factory reset, and if that doesn't work, your last resort would be to reflash the stock ROM. That would definitely be outside my scope of knowledge, as well as most other people on this forum. The forums at XDA-Developers.com would be a better resource for that kind of thing.

I wanted a factory reset be the really last resort, I'll check the XDA forum first and then finally do a backup of all data and factory reset. I'll give feedback with what will work.
Thank you for the tip!
