Xperia Z2 vs. Xperia Z1

Hi there guys,

So like the title says, I am wondering if I should wait for the Xperia Z2, or buy the Xperia Z1 now? What's their differences (I heard only the camera and video) and price? I would probably only use the phone for listening to music, play videos, play games and probably browse stuff like Instagram and Facebook. I don't take that much pictures or videos, and want to avoid lag (as I rarely tweak the phone). I also prefer phones that could fit into a pocket nicely, not a phablet, about 5" - 5.5".

Thus, suggestions? Thanks! (P.S. Should I buy the Sony Smartwatch 2 with it, or wait for a newer Sony phone if they are going to release one?)

As far as I know, the release date for the Z2 is still questionable. If you are looking at a phone now, I would get a Z1.

Oh, is there not a set date? I thought it was around Q2 no? And I can wait a few months (as until June) for a phone. So still the Z1?
Thanks for the welcome :)

None that I could find. It probably is set for about the second quarter, as we are almost there anyway.

I can't remember where I heard April but I would wait especially with the improvements Sony has made with the Display.

Latest news is that there will be a "shortage."

Just my opinion, but I owned the Z1 for a very short time. I brought it home hoping to upgrade from a Moto RAZR M I had at the time. Putting the two next to each other, the Z1 had a noticeably inferior display....which is why I didn't have it long. I'm interested in the Z2 for a few reasons, but without the promise of an upgraded display, I wouldn't consider it.

what part of the world are you located?

SE Asia, why do you ask?

So is the Z1 display really that bothering? Since if the difference with Z2 isn't that much, then it would be better to get Z1 right due to price?

Yeah I heard about the pre-order removal, but it's fine since I would probably buy it around June/July

Because there might not be as much of a wait if you're outside of the US

All I have to go on are the reviews that say the Z2 screen is much better. I, personally, would never revisit the Z1. It was washed out and dull compared to the lowly RAZR M.

Z2 all the way!

The Z2 was officially announced for Singapore yesterday, read about it here: Xperia Z2 hits pre-order in Singapore; on sale in first week of April | Xperia Blog

You can preorder now and it will be available on 1 April.

Besides the screen technology and size (Z2 slightly larger screen, overall size of the phone is about the same), there are other differences. The Z2 will ship with an 801 Snapdragon with 3gb of ram versus the Z1 with an 800 Snapdragon with 2gb of ram. While the Z1 is very snappy, the Z2 will be better.

The Z2 will also ship with KitKat, the latest Android operating system. Since the international versions of the Z2 will be released with 16gb of internal memory, this could be an issue because KitKat really limits the use of SD storage. Since you want to listen to music and play games, this could make that 16gb seem too small.

I live in the US so I will wait for the hopeful release of the Z2 on TMo. When TMo released their version of the Z1 (Z1s) it had 32gb of internal storage, which works better for me. That said, if TMo does release a version of the Z2 in the US, I will upgrade.
