Xperia Z5 compact not syncing contacts

[Android Central Question]

I've just noticed that my phone contacts aren't the same as the online contacts.google.com. What do I need to do to sync them up?

Welcome to Android Central! Go to Settings>Accounts>Google and look at the Contacts sync. Is it turned on? If so, does it say "Sync Error"?

In the Contacts app, also make sure that it's set to display All Contacts (or at least your Google account).

Yes sync is turned on and All contacts selected in the contacts app, still doesn't appear to be syncing, i.e. there are differences between some contacts on my phone and those on contacts.google.com.

As long as you don't have any contacts saved to the local Phone account, go to Settings>Apps, tap Menu>Show System, tap Contact Storage, and Clear Cache/Clear Data. Then open Contacts again and wait a few seconds for your contacts to sync again. Do they show correctly now?
