Yes you can do the OTA update if you've unrevoked forever..here's how!

make sure you didn't save anything as PC36IMG.zip.zip. This dumb mistake had me baffled for the better part of an hour.

I followed the direction, when flashing the update I got error code 7. I used unrevoked to root the phone.

Is there any other way to get around this other than unrooting and returning to stock?

EDIT: I forgot to say, I didn't get the OTA request yet. I put the update file on the SD card labeled update.zip and flashed it via the recovery menu.

Neither zip will extract.

ETA - Right clicking, and selectign "EXtract to..." worked. Not sure why selecting Extract All did not.

I followed the steps, everything went fine, I got the new OTA update to install, went to step 3 -4 and when I was done...I was back to about 2 updates ago. I have the SU installed, but cannot get the new OTA to work.

I didn't think I was a techno idiot, but I'm wondering now.

I had the same problem when using the built in from Windows. Extracted without problems using 7Zip. Also read on a previous post that works with winrar too.

To be honest, this sounds like more effort than just grabbing a stock deodexed 3.70 ROM and flashing it, if one really wanted stock HTC/Sprint software.

I think it's faster and simpler to just update Radios and flash a ROM.

Help Please

I'm trying to update my rooted Evo to 3.70, I have clockworkmod recovery ver. 3.0.0.5 and S off shows on the boot screen. Downloaded the rooted version of 3.70 and followed instructions, I get the following message when I run it.

Amend scripting (update-script) is no longer supported
Amend scripting was deprecated by Google in Android 1.5
It was necessary to remove it when upgrading to the clockworkmod 3.0 gingerbread based recovery.

Please switch to Edify scripting (updater-script and update-binary) to create working update.zip packages.

installation aborted

What can I do to correct this problem..
Thank you for you incredible work in helping us.

I did everything leading up to, and including step one with no errors. However, I still have root access and it doesn't look like the OTA is finding me.

Any thoughts?

For all those wondering, this still applies to the Update to Gingerbread...I just followed the instructions, and now have a Rooted EVO with stock Gingerbread!

It didn't work for me. Tried it and it wouldn't install. Gave me the red triangle and red exclamation point.

I'm having an odd problem. I was on the 3.70 stock rom, rooted wth unrevoked, and s-off. I re-installed the 3.70 stock recovery. Took the OTA update. No problems. Upgraded to GB. I then put ClockWorkMod recovery (PC36IMG.zip) back to the root of sdcard.

However, now, pushing volume rocker down, and powering, the phone does nothing. I can power-up the phone fine without rocker down, but phone does not respond when powering with rocker down.

Is there any other way to flash the Clockworkmod recovery?

Any ideas?

OK, I got it to respond as expected after a battery pull. Just flashed the clockworkmod recovery, installed su, and am back to rooted.

I notice with GB, a quick power button push DOES NOT cycle the phone like it did previously with Froyo, unless I pull the battery, then do the recovery re-boot trick.

Anyone else see this also?

I'm curious...why should we update? Is this better or is it just preference? I'm.running the deck gingerbread Rom or mikfroyo Rom. What will I gain or loose by updating?

I'm also having trouble getting this latest update applied, but I haven't lost root.

1) I applied the PC36IMG from the 1st GB OTA to go back to stock recovery. This seemed to go ok.
2) Deleted that PC36IMG from sdcard.
3) Accepted the OTA, installed the OTA.
4) During install, about half way through the green circle/arrow, the screen went to red triangle/exclamation, and hung. A bit worried at that point about bricking...
5) Battery pull, reboot, and I am still at the GB1 update level, and rooted.
6) I can reflash ClockWorkMod recovery as needed (either via RomManager or volume/down Power button method).

I just can't seem to get the OTA applied after reverting back to GB1's stock recovery. Maybe when I created that, I messed it up. Going to tried one of the older stock recoveries (I have them all).

The issue appears to be that I can't really get back to Stock Recovery after the GB1 update. I apply the stock PC36IMG (tried various different versions) via VolumeDown-PowerButton, and it says the update worked, But, a subsquent VolumeDown-PowerButton gets to the initial fast boot screen, but then selecting Recovery, will start the process ok (Green circle-arrow screen) but then goes to the RedTriangleExclamation screen, and hangs.

I can reflash a ClockWorkMod PC36IMG recovery and boot into that just fine with VolumeDown-PowerButton, and then select Recovery works fine.

So, it appears there is no real way back to StockRecovery from GB1, like there was for Froyo.
