Well, I went to the store and finally got to play with the X before purchasing. It's AMAZING. I don't really have time to write up a long first impression, but I will say this: anyone who's coming from the Incredible, like me, WILL NOT be disappointed. As a couple other people in this forum have mentioned (like MolecularGraph) it's JUST as fast as the Incredible.

A couple take away points for you all:

  • Screen is awesome. Don't listen to the haters. It "pops" so to speak ;)
  • Size is not that bad (see my comparison pic)
  • ALL SORTS of people are going to get this phone -- case in point -- small Asian girl with her friend playing with the phone after I did. Yes she has small hands. NO, it didn't matter.
  • This thing is well built -- feels better in hand than Incredible.
  • No creaking in construction, I tried bending it (while the rep wasn't looking!) and it was a nice tight package
  • Hump is not as big as you'd think -- and actually does help when pulling from pocket, holster, etc.
  • Rewire your brain former Droid Incredible users -- I found myself hitting Menu button several times when I meant to hit home. DOH!
  • This thing is gonna sell. I repeat: this thing is going to sell. Hopefully, VZW avoids another HTC Incredible fiasco.

That's all for now. Hit me up with questions if you have any. Enjoy the pictures!! :)

Haha thats awesome.

Glad to see it :)

I thought about making a thread with this exact title, I kid you not. I didn't get a working model though, it was just a dummy. I was really only concerned with getting a feel for the size and weight though, which I have determined to be perfect. I'm in love.

Haha, exact same feeling yesterday afternoon.

Nice post. The pics are a bonus! I am so amped right now I can hardly keep in a smile!!!

Me too!

I just got back from playing with the DX as well. Holy Awesomeballs, Batman. I too was going to make a thread. Thanks for doing us all the favor ;-)

Coming from a BB Tour, I can tell you that I was unbelievably impressed by the speed of the X. Anyone who's tried to use Google Maps on a Tour will probably tell you it's slow and kind of difficult to navigate at times. Not so on the X.

The other thing that truly impressed me was the feel/weight/heft of the phone. Most phones, you pick them up and it's not hard to think it feels lighter than it should... as though there's unused space inside. The X, on the other hand, is just solid. It's a brick, in the good way. I rather stupidly forgot to play with Swype :o but what are you gonna do?

Side Note: The rep told me that their location (a corporate kiosk in a mall) will only be getting TEN of these beauties. I'll be in line outside that morning. After playing with this baby for ten minutes, it's easy to imagine an instantaneous sell-out. Gah. I don't want to be number eleven that morning!

PS: Hi Android... uh... fans! I'm a newly converted CrackBerry Addict. What's the term for people who now think Android is the most awesomest thing ever?

Awesome, I'm glad to hear this as I am just like you... switching from a Tour to the Droid X. The only thing that scares me is switching to a phone with no physical keyboard but sounds like the touch keyboard on this phone is big and easy to use.

I am coming from a Storm (I recently jumped in the pool with it in my pocket) but I am not going to miss the Storm. It just didn;t seem to have the extras I wanted. It was great for emails though...

It certainly is. I played around with the calendar, and typed a text message to myself. Honestly, the keyboard almost seems TOO big, but it's since I'm used to the tiny Tour keys. The keyboard takes up about half of the screen, which leaves a viewing area comparable to the physical size of the Tour screen. I doubt it'll take long to get used to.

Now the bad news: I'm going away for the weekend with my girlfriend. I think I'm gonna have to reactivate my BB before I leave, because if I spend the whole weekend playing with my phone I've been guaranteed a comfy spot on the couch every night :p

Great thread name. I of course fit the bill - just returned from the VZW store with a Droid X reservation. Damn that screen is gorgeous. I was pretty surprised, especially since I've been playing with my gf's iPhone 4. Very responsive screen, too.

I'll definitely miss navigating around my Storm's screen dead spots, pulling its battery every 32 seconds, and using its amazing click-to-fail browser.

Forgot to mention something about Swype -- and I don't mean to hijack my own thread, but to me, the keyboard is big enough that you don't have to use Swype by default. On my Incredible, in portrait mode, it was hard to peck away at the keys cause they were so small, but on the X, in portrait, they are so big that Swype-ing wasn't an absolute necessity.

In fact, it's kinda hard using it one hand cause you have much more "travel-space" between letters. This was evident when swyping words like "market" or "commander", etc.

This stock keyboard from Motorola IS THE REAL DEAL. Just in case you all were wondering! ;)

I touched an X and I liked it............

Ahhhhhh....
Store had 2 demos on hand today..LOCKED UP IN A SAFE NO LESS.lol.
I thought I was gonna have to go out and have a cigarette after touching it. :p

Amazing, simply just amazing.
Lightening quick, not too big, just right, I could go into all of the accolades of this lil electronic miracle, but they'd simply be a repeat of what you've already probably read and saw.
If you've found this forum, you've done some research.
They told me that they had originally thought they might kept a certain amount for new customers, but changed their minds.
They said they were expecting to get 60 in tomorrow. They were opening at 7:00 am with coffee and donuts for the customers. They said their phones had been RINGING OFF THE HOOKS for people wanting to know when they went on sale.
I will be there 0630.
She took my cell number and said she'd call me if she found out anything different.
Suffice it to say, I can verify, like the others, this phone is going to change the cellphone world and perhaps ripple into the PDA/tablet/cellphone arenas.
Best I can tell the only thing wrong with this phone is it's name.
If it's predecessor is the 'Incredible'......then.....

This device should be named the

'Freaking Awesome.'

I went to the Verizon store and they didn't have any to demo. I may have to wait until Thursday to actually see one. I'm not in the market to buy one seeing as though I have an EVO and love it. But I would like to do some wide-by-side comparisons. Plus, I just like smartphone and android has given us some real gems to appreciate. I'm excited about seeing this device and the Samsung Epic 4G when it is released.

You guys are lucky. My VZW store here in NYC doesn't give a cr@p, is not opening early, will not take reservations, and I got an eye-roll when I asked if they had an X to demo.
