Went by Best Buy again tonight to look at the pixels again just to check some things out in the settings and man was I in for a shock. This thing was lagging like crazy and wouldn't even switch to dark mode, I was testing the 4XL and then I moved over to the 4 and the thing reset on me when I was trying to use it.

I know these are demos but sheesh this was atrocious and if this was indicative of my retail experience I would stay far away from these devices. I don't understand why they'd be so choppy and horrible since there's nothing even loaded on them since you can't install anything due to them being in demo mode.

This is more than a demo unit issue. Were other devices performing fine ?

I tried the regular 4 and that registered my tap for dark mode and it turned on but when trying to scroll or go back to other parts of settings it was straight up laggy af.

Are you trying to ask if the actual phones are laggy or just ranting that the demo phones are laggy?

People have been using actual phones including me and the experience has been great. One of the best in terms of performance.

I did also observe when I went to best buy during pre order period that the demo software was kind of laggy and not a great experience. Not the greatest experience but anyway the phones have been great.

I am experiencing zero lag on my P4 XL. It has been a smooth experience thus far.

I'm not seeing anything like that on My Pixel 4 XL , no issues with lag at all.

Im happy with the way mine has been performing :)

Could be memory leak or cheap *** slow storage module that they used. OnePlus introduced UFS 2.1 back in 2017 lol

Been using my 4 XL since Wednesday and zerrrrro lag for me not one single time has this lagged. In fact super super fast.

They demo units at Verizon were amazing. The demo units at Best Buy were absolute garbage.

It wad almost as if they were trying to make it look bad.

I've had more lag and freezes on my iPhone 11 Pro Max than Pixel 4XL. While I'm still not 100% sure I'm keeping the P4XL it has been flawless in that regard.

All I’m saying is if I was a regular consumer and that was my first experience with the Pixel it would not have been a good first impression and would have immediately not even given it a second thought about a potential purchase.

I think he articulated quite clearly that he tried 2 different demo P4 (regular and XL) and that in store experience using them was poor. And further, that if he didn’t know more, this would be off-putting to a normal user.

What are you reading into this?

Its weird with Pixel phones. Many reported P3 was slow, I think it was ok for me, only app that had issues was Chrome browser. P4 can be the same, fast for some and slow for others. Wouldn't be surprised if this is related to cheap hardware that they use

This has actually been a major pain for me on my 3xl since the October security patch. Whenever I toggle dark mode on or off the gesture inputs don't work or severely lag until I reboot the phone.

I saw the exact same issue with the demo units that I found at Bell Mobility and Best Buy. I am thinking that they may be running a different software build. I actually bought a Pixel 4 XL and it does not have any of the issues the demo units I tried did. It is very strange for sure because I would think that you want to put the best foot forward with a demo, not the worst foot. As you pointed out, the regular consumer will walk away immediately if faced with something like this and never come back.

Demo phones run a locked down demo version of the software. They are there to highlight the key features and give a basic hands on experience. They in no way represent actual user experience. These phones are abused day in and day out by many many people. It's also safe to say that they are most likely not well maintained from a software perspective either. Take this with a grain of salt, because myself like so many other people here and Reddit. Have not experienced anything like this with our devices.
