I just got a Tab s 10.5 recently, still with KitKat, and now it has the update files for Lollipop. But I am still unsure about updating, although most people say a lot about good performance gains, I also see other ones complaining, specially with a significant battery drain.
Other think I dislike about the Lollipop is the too "whitey" interface. I prefer the darker theme, suits better in my opinion. Wish there was an option to keep it like that, without any rooting or other procedures.
What I was wondering is this: if I update it to Lollipop and then I do a factory reset, will it come back with the KitKat the came originally, or it will now come with the Lollipop? I ask this because I was thinking about trying this (since I don't have much files and apps yet, so a factory reset wouldn't be so critical), but in case I observed any performance issues I could reset it to the original state and keep it like that.
Thanks
A factory reset will only delete your personal data stored internally, like pics, music, videos, downloaded apps, etc. but not the installed OS, doesn't matter if you are on Lollipop or KitKat. I must have read hundreds of posts where a lot of people actually recommend doing it after a major update.
Thanks for the information, didn't know that. I haven't seen much people recommneding that (factory reset after update), the most I hear is to make a backup of all files and stuff, only as a recommendation, since it is said that updating the OS won't delete the files.
Anyway... I'm still in doubt about updating... I feel afraid that I might be on the group that will have a bad performance after it, would be a shame just after purchasing the tablet.
EDIT: By the way, let me ask one other thing about factory reset... I have the update files downloaded, and they are not small (like 1GB). If I factory reset, those files would be deleted? Then I could deactvate the automatic update checking and only download and install it when I'm comfortable with.
